Funny I have been imaging Voltron with hands since I watched the old one back in 80's.Β I never really liked "mitten" style as you called it.
Now my imagination has been fired up again since watching new one on Netflix. In my Voltron universe, he has hands and mouth (or face) shield like Optimus Prime because what is point of him having mouth? He don't use it to talk or anything. I always through that robots like Voltron and Mecha looks better with moth/face shield.
