Description
I decided to sketch them because I'm in love with them! Even with minimal details of their relationship I can't help but ship them so! You just got to love the princess shepherdess and her disguised Lord! It's truly an original love story!^^its just a quick sketch, and the anatomy is way off after many attempts at saving it, but I still love it! I've been so lost in school I've felt drowned in it, but now most of the major projects from last year is handed in, and yet I felt a bit meaningless,so this drawing, seemingly without importance, has been very important to me! So I hope you'll like it too! ^^

They are not in silmarillion, but in unfinished tales, at the part of numenor and its kings. Ancalime is the daughter of Eldarion, the king who first created a friendship with Gil-Galad and started the wars on Sauron, if I remember correctly. Its one of the most heart-wretching stories of Tolkien I think.
And thank you!^^

I love to see illustrations of scenes or characters that aren't of major importance or very detailed in the books, especially those in Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales! And these two are a great choice.
Have you potrayed Aldarion as well?

I didn't like him as a guy, but as a character I found him very interesting, as was the portrayal of his relationship with Erendis. It's definitely one of Tolkien's most psychologically complex stories! In fact, I think it's his only story where the characters' psychology is given more importance than the plot itself, or at least that's how I interpreted it.

Oh that is a very good point, and now that I think of it I completely agree! I think that is why I love Ancalime as well because she is a product of such a psychological warfare between her mother and father. It was very interesting and sad to read the whole ordeal with Erendis love for him and how she grew bitter and cold after being left behind, and it makes a lot of sense. So does Aldarions love for he sea and his need to follow his heart rather than no to the woman he loves! Oh yes thank you for making me see it like that, because when reading it it all got very depressive and I read it split up over a few months so that's why I didn't get he full impact of the story ^^ now I'm tempted to read it again actually!

Yeah, this is what struck me while reading it, I hadn't expected to read such a story from Tolkien! It felt like reading an Ibsen play, or something of the sort (involving psychology of relationship's with a great understanding of the female character's point of view)! Yup, you should read it again and draw a scene from it ^^

I most certainly will now hahaha being Norwegian I find your Ibsen reference to be very amusing x) but yes you are right, Tolkien is usually all about the action and happenings of his characters with minimal internal struggle, especially with the sons of Finwe and that whole ordeal, so it is very interesting to read, especially as you say he has such understanding of the female mind, rare in an early century man, but then again there is the more typical choice of making the woman the villain and sowing hate of men in her daughter... VERY interesting, I want to write a paper on this now

Exactly! What kind of paper do you have in mind, fiction or critical essays? Ah, jeg studerte skandinaviske studier (og studerte også i Norge med en stipend!), så Ibsen er alltid en referanse for meg Hva studerer du der?

Oh yes I see ^^ I don't know these characters since I've not read the Silmarillion yet (it's the book they are from, isn't it?), but I'll read it as soon as I'm finished with LoTR ^^ (I'm quite new in Tolkien universe, but I enjoy it to no end)

They are from Unfinished Tales, and I HIGHLY reccomend reading it after reading Silmarillion (and you can either read Children of Hurin during, aka skip the chapter in Silmarillion and just read the book instead (as there is a chapter called Children of Hurin or Of Turin, or something like that) or read it after Silmarillion as that story is one of the most important ones to Tolkien's Legendarium, personally I liked the book version much better than the much shorter chapter version) and then you should read Unfinished tales, as it's bascially just a deeper view of some of the stories you read in Silmarillion, but most of the details of Numenor is to be found in Unifinshed tales, and also the story of Ancalimë, the princess that was brought up by her mother, far away from her father because her mother hated him, in a house of women, and when she became open heir to the throne her father threw suitors at her so she went to hide away in the mountains disguised as a shepherdess, and then Hallacar came, also disguised and won her heart, even if she slightly recented him for it later... Im sorry this was a lot, I just LOVE that story, so now you know the gist of it!
And enjoy LotR, tho I personally love silmarillion and it's stories more, even thought LotR is my origin into this fandom, and I love the story with all my heart, I found the book to be a bit excessive for my taste.

Well thank you for all these explanations <3 I'm quite sensitive to the love fans can express about their favorite stories/characters ^^ I love when people are so passionate ^^ So I'll add The Unfinished Tales and Children of Hurin to my list of books to buy and read XD
I myself read (in my language, that is French) LoTR some 12 years ago and forgot most of it, I just remembered I liked it. I stumbled by chance on second-hand English versions of the LoTR books and DVDs of the LoTR movies on a flee market this Summer and bought that to read and watch one day. And a few months ago a friend of mine commissioned me for a drawing of Thranduil. And I simply fell in love with him <3 <3 So that I've bought the extended version of the Hobbit DVDs, I watched the LoTR movies too, and I'm currently reading the Two Towers ^^ I really love Tolkien universe. And there's so much to discover, it's incredible ^^

I'm really glad you're falling for it so, I understand your feeling completely, as I myself finished LotR and read Silmarillion for real last year, and I fell in love with both SO HARD! Tho the LotR films I have been in love with since I saw them first when I was 10, and for 13 years they have inspired me to do my art and love fantasy in such a passionate way, so when I felt I was ready and I read the books in original english, I felt this bliss wash over me because it is all I ever want to read! I litterally dont want to read any other books than these, because they are SO perfect! The language the stories the complexity! I am in love, and I never think Ill get over this one. Though I find the Hobbit films entertaining, I do not love them like the LotR films. I see the LotR trilogy every third month (believe me I wanna see it more often but I promised myself not to see it more than 4 times a year so that I do not get bored of it) and every time I watch it I feel like that 10year old exploring the world of Tolkien once again, and falling in love! But the silmarillion is a whole other thing... I just LOVE it because its sooo vague, and with all the fanartists creating their own image of the world.. It is perfection!!

Hahaha well I just bought second-hand versions of The Children of Hurin and Unfinished Tales on the internet XD You convinced me you see <3 <3
It's such a bliss to be able to read the books in the original English version, I really agree.
The movies are such a recent discovery for me, I can't help watching them all over again XD I'm in the middle of The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey (for the... third or fourth time in two months O_o ) these days...
That feeling of being given a complete world to explore is indeed incredible. I watch these movies with eyes wide open each time. (and I enjoyed SO MUCH watching all the behind-the-scenes bonuses of the extended version of the Hobbit movies O_O )
The Hobbit movies are my fav, I believe it's because there is my beloved Thranduil in them XD
Yes, I love all the beautiful art created by fans on the Silmarillion. I've got my head full of the faces of Mairon, Melkor... etc. I've seen while browsing here on DA

OOOh enjoy them both! You have a great read ahead of you! ^^ I am envious!
Yes, I do not feel you can ever appreciate a great author if you do not read it in the original language!^^ And as long as english is your second language you should give it a go! I don't think I've read a book in my native language in a LONG time... though it's probably due to my love of fantasy, and its not very much good fantasy written in norwegian so
Oh you should enjoy the films, but be careful so you dont wear them out! You dont think its possible now, but believe me it is! I have too many issues with the Hobbit movies to ever love them the way I love LotR, but I do enjoy them, especially as I LOVE all the main characters and the actors!
The LotR films are to me precious in a way it is not possible to explain. it is like a piece of my heart, and when I watch them I feel at peace and the world is perfect. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but it is truly how I feel! It's not really a choice for me, they just are a part of me, as they have been for the last 13 years!^^
Remember not to be too influenced by the artists around here about how you see the characters. The glory of the silmarillion and unfinished tales is that all the characters are your own to do with as you will! Thats why I do not like to draw from LotR, because I like to use my imagination rather than copy off an actor or something someone else has created, or else I wouldve been drawing Thranduil a lot more than I've done!

I've just recieved The Children of Hurin and The Unfinished Tales <3 <3
They will have to wait until I've finished reading the Two Towers, The Return of the King, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion O_O So much to read XD
It's really the same for me, I'm always reading in English these days. Since my two fav styles are Sci-Fi and Fantasy.... And there are so many great English-speaking writters in these fields...
I'll follow your advice XD And not watch them too often XD
I really understand that. It's the same for me with the StarTrek original movies. When I watch them once more, I just feel at home XD
Well it's quite the contrary for me. Inventing the features of a character is very very difficult and unnatural for me (I'm not one for OCs as well...). While on the contrary I adore drawing from pictures of the movies. And I finish to know the features by heart for the characters I love most and have drawn many many times XD
