Description Another sequel interpretation, this time of the clip shown at the Annecy 2013 conference, readable here (inhonoredglory.tumblr.com/post… ), in which Hiccup is kidnapped by the mysterious dragon rider and thrown into his kidnapper's lair. He takes his fire sword out to protect himself from the dragons there. I really can't wait to see how Hiccup uses his fire sword. It's said he uses the sword not for violence, but to make the dragons think he is one of them. Again, I'm thrilled for the sequel!

Hey thank you! I did throw on a texture on this one, it does help add depth to it in a way.

Is there really such a scene?  In the meantime, it's beautiful.

Yes, the description of the scene I copied from an eyewitness' repot of the exclusive HTTYD2 in-progress clips at the Annecy conference in France this year. It might not be the final clip that would be shown in the film in 2014, but it's probably something close.

Anyway, thanks for liking this!

The picture is very beautiful, and you captured Hiccups expression perfectly. The fire and the lighting looks great too!

A flammable sword? It would take up loads of petrol to make the fire last.... just saying...

Is also useful for when he's not fighting, Hiccup can use it as a torch (since it's obvious that torches weren't invented then )

He probably just put some Monstrous Nightmare spit on the sword.

Ha! Could be...

inhonoredglory In reply to ARTYSK [2013-07-31 21:20:22 +0000 UTC]

I actually think his fire sword is not used for fighting, but as they said in the Comic Con, to show to other dragons that he's part of them. So... it's all very in-character for him!

ARTYSK In reply to inhonoredglory [2013-08-01 08:16:16 +0000 UTC]

'Part of Me'....

I'm not being funny, but it would be a bit pointless if you had a [flaming] sword for nothing Unless you want to make your enemies become toast!

inhonoredglory In reply to ARTYSK [2013-08-02 16:50:52 +0000 UTC]

Well that's what canon is having him use the "sword" for -- to convince the dragons he's one of them. That's what he used it for in the Annecy Conference clip description. I'd really be surprised if Hiccup actually shed human blood with his fire sword, if that's what you mean.

True, true. but it could spoil the film's age rating

I still don't understand how can someone have a firesword. I mean... how would it work in real world?

Okay... a few words to this. Dark. That's good. The scene you took inspiration from is dark. You also did a good job on the lightning. The hair's good, but could be a liiiitle bit better. It makes his head really big. The facial expression suggests that he is angry. I'd add more fear to it. But otherwise - a good job, as always.

inhonoredglory In reply to Jam722 [2013-07-29 20:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I wondered that too, but there was a post on Tumblr which showed actual real life fire sword available for purchase: www.homeofpoi.com/shop/product… So I guess it's not too far-fetched!

Thanks for the notes, and as for his expression, I wasn't really thinking he'd have too much fear in this scene. A bit of angry and annoyed more than anything, at least that's what I put here.

I wish him good luck when the sword runs out of fuel. It can't burn forever, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inhonoredglory In reply to Jam722 [2013-07-30 17:47:14 +0000 UTC]

Yup, though it's probably dragon-fuel so he can probably get refilled by Toothless somehow. Honestly, though, it's probably going to be one of those "don't think too hard about it" kind of movie tricks, like "Astrid goes for a spin."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jam722 In reply to inhonoredglory [2013-07-30 17:56:02 +0000 UTC]

I actually think that "Astrid goes for a spin" scene showcases Toothless' intelligence. To me it seemed like he knew what he was doing. That grin of his when Astrid screamed "Get me off this thing" is like "Mission accomplished". I dunno, maybe I am too imaginative.

inhonoredglory In reply to Jam722 [2013-07-31 21:22:38 +0000 UTC]

Ah well... the whole "don't think about it" for "Astrid goes for a spin" was the physics side, and a quote from the DWA commentators. Like they said in the HTTYD director's commentary on the DVD, "how can Toothless fly like this when Hiccup doesn't want him to?" or something like that. Sure, it shows Toothless' intelligence -- it shows his love and respect for Hiccup and how he isn't taking flack to anyone who thrashes his boy. But the whole Toothless controlling the flight against Hiccup's will is the "don't think too hard" part of this sequence.

Yeah, thanks. I am getting used to making his armor, and I think by sequel's coming I'd have it down pretty much in my memory! At least I hope.

Fire sword! Hiccup invented a light saber!

I like how in this drawing Hiccup's skin is intact and he's not injured; just ready to fight.

LOL you're right! Most of the time he's got his fire sword in hand, he's injured in some way. Anyway, can't wait to see how he works this wonder!

Ugh Valka.... ie, Valhallarama. I still can't get over the fact they virtually copied the opening Val scene from book 10 in that clip. O.O

It must mean that they liked it a lot, and that Hiccup is going to have a lot of drama to work through.

inhonoredglory In reply to JayaLaw [2013-08-16 05:35:55 +0000 UTC]

Also means that this movie doesn't necessarily have to depart from the books so much as the first movie did.

Right, though I was hoping that Drago Bludivist would look more like book Alvin. Oh well; he resembles more the hook-handed pianist from Tangled
