I think I just died a little inside.... X|Good Lord, this one took forever, like, forever. I started it sometime late in 2010 or early 2011 if I remember correctly.....but never posted it 'cause I'm a scardycat and afraid of criticism. And now, after I feel as though I've improved so much, set to sprucing it up. I actually changed quite a bit, in my mind at least. I might post a comparison later....maybe lol.
Anyway, this is the [hopeful] cover to my [hopeful] novel. The prologue of which is here: [link]
Since I'm so anal about detail, and want to make sure everyone knows just what my characters look like, especially the main character Zeek, I decided just to throw him on the cover. Wth not? If it's not this, it'd just be a red background with the full Dragon Mark.
As a disclaimer: I realize I'm not perfect, or anywhere even remotely close to it for that matter, so comments? Ideas? Likes? Dislikes? Flames even? lol, no lets not flame please. I want to improve not feel like crap.
So yeah, many long days and nights in photoshop with my beloved graphics tablet.

I must say This is a really we rendered and composed piece of art. Skin shading is awesome, with shadows and highlight though I can feel that some of the shadow work is done by blocking black on a seperate layer on top pf the skin layer instead of rendering on the skin itself. Doesn't bother much but can get the feeling when looking closely (I use it a lot too, mostly when I'm too lazy xD) I also loved the tattoo, it does look like it's on the skin (unlike some of mine which looks like stickers . 
I don't know much about typography and only a little about graphic design, but the "the Curse" kind of mixes with the dragon tattoo, and at first I thought it was letter work too. Maybe it's look little bit less confusing if you moved it on somewhere else (unless you did on purpose).

Wow, thank you so much! I worked so hard on this it really makes me feel good to see a comment as detailed and constructive as this! And yes, I must admit to applying a slight darker gradient from about his waist down. That might be something I go back and retouch later, as I'm already finding things I should fix again, lol. And thank you so much for noticing the tattoo too! That one took forever to sculpt, but I'm really proud of how it came out. As far as his hair goes, I used about 3 or 4 different brushes, one the pre-made "airbrush opacity flow" or something like that, and the others some brushes I made myself. I know what you mean about some brushes creating that displeasing texture.
Yeah, I was having problems finding a correct place for the "The Curse"....I might go in and do something to make it stand out a bit more from his skin or see if I can fit it somewhere else

And as far as my novel goes, I kind of feel strange talking about my own work, but the prologue is up here: [link] granted I'm still editing and polishing, lol. The prologue actually occurs about 6 years before the rest of the novel, so the main characters range from about 16 to 20. It's very much an action and adventure, fantasy-type book, and just kind of follows the main character, Zeek, as he comes to deal with who and what he is, as well as face the conflicts that approach him, from defending his home and friends to a completely out-of-hand sibling rivalry. Really, and I know a lot of authors say this, I just want to make believable, relate-able characters, even in the fantasy environment, so many of them come from broken homes and deal with a lot of "normal" problem too.
I'm sorry if that didn't fill you in as much as you wanted--I kind of fail at describing my own writing. But, really, thank you so much for asking! It really does make my day when someone takes an interest in my writing!

Lol, I am so bad at describing my novels to other people, too,
it's always the same, I got to show them the prologue or I go into
a long explaination of things. XD
Have you found it hard introducing characters to the story? I am currently suffering writers block with one of my stories, and I wonder if I have to rewrite/replot the whole darn thing because of this.

Well, for me at least, I never really found I struggled with placing the character in too much, granted some characters can be somewhat more difficult than others, so much so that there was a character or two a simply took completely out of the novel just because I couldn't find an appropriate way to work them in. xD For me the hard part is keeping the flow of the entire novel smooth....I try to make each part as climactic as the others, and then it all just goes down hill from there lol
But I really do know what you mean with writer's block. I'm just now getting over a year-long bout with it myself xD Really, the best advice I've found for writer's block is just "to go ahead and write. And yeah, sometimes you might write crap, but you can edit crap, you can't edit a blank page." And I've done my share of plot restructuring and writing as well. Sometimes I liked it more, sometimes less. If you feel that's what you need to do, then do it! You'll never know until you see it complete before you. Just make sure to save the original too, lol ;]
