Description Ummm... I dunno. I like to mix genres up, play with ideas. Plus I can always use the practice drawing attractive pin-up-girl-type art. I was going for something with a lot of attitude and character, a design that I could use for a fighting game or a comics project or anything else that comes up. It's just practice, really... but I feel like I'm getting closer to something I can be satisfied with. Not that I ever really expect THAT to happen...

I'm working all large again... I need to cave in and go buy a pack of Bristol that's bigger than 14x17, 'cause this whole "taping extra bits to the sides" dealie is just no good.

I actually just wrote a bunch about style and being in control of it. It's a bit of readin', but I think I expressed something useful, maybe.

[link]

The TL;DR boils down to a really unsatisfying answer: practice and fundamentals. In this case, it'd be about composition and perspective... perspective helps create depth, and composition helps lead the eye.

Although this is an old one, so at the time I was probably fudging both.

Already knew about how the basics help in drawing and style is just which techniques you use and which you don't.

But the whole composition and perspective thing is really helpful. Right now, I suck compared to every DA artist, so I'm not posting any deviations(and I don't have a scanner).

You've seen all the people who draw the equivalent of stick figures. The people who you can clearly see has talent. The people who have incredible drawings but lack diversity. The guys that can ONLY draw portraits etc. I just don't want to be like them. I'm going to suck PRIVATELY(excuse the innuendo). So thanks again, mate, for the tips. Every bit helps.

Pretty big, about 14x17. There was a time back then when I was working big.

i've been thinking of working on bigger than a3. i want to draw gib and put lots of details in... you don't work big now?

Inkthinker In reply to tsutar [2009-03-12 06:48:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, I work digital now, which means size is a relatively flexible issue. For one thing, I can resize the canvas if I find myself running off the page, or I can resize the drawing if my dimensions are locked. And I generally find that at 600dpi I'm able to put in some retarded levels of detail even on very small drawings. The page border images I did for FantasyCraft are only an inch or so high in physical dimensions, but at digital resolution I can make them two or three times that size and maintain a good deal of fine detail. I'm not sure I could have done those on paper without a magnifying glass.

Which might have been fun in and of itself.

I miss the danger and the texture of live, physical ink and paper, but I'm not inclined to go back to it as a regular thing. Sometimes, though, when nobody is looking... I dust off the Microns and ink a doodle in my notebook. Such a rush, working with no Undo.

Yeh, i was just drawing something yesterday and i went to undo. It was such a weird feeling. Don't know if i was looking for the menu bar or just thinking about reverting... strange 0.0

Hm... yep. Espescially odd, too, 'cause I like kukhri's, I incorporate 'em often.

Then again, most of these blades are semi-made-up anyhow.

This is cool! Did you use photographs or something to do the swords? Because they look extremely real (well, like the rest of the pic )

Some of the blade designs -- plus the fact that she has so many of them -- remind me of Blade of the Immortal. Are you a fan?

Also, what does the button say? It's too small to read.

Inkthinker In reply to hrhtomas [2006-11-04 22:58:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh, and I have no idea what the button says... it's too small for me to read, too! If I can turn up the original or a larger-res scan, I'll find out.

Read every issue since the first day Dark Horse put it out. I haven't catalogued it lately, but I believe I may have every single issue as a result... the only other series that I think I have over 100 consecutive issues of is Usagi Yojimbo.

I really do like the design. She's got a lot of attitude - it shows in her face more than anything. My over-all impression is 'someone you would not want to attempt to mug or belittle'. She looks like a chick who can hold her own in a fight, that or win.

Yah, I really should ink this one. It's over a year old and I still dig it... good sign in a piece like this.

So get out that pen and ink!
Would it be okay if I tried my (rather unskilled) hand at colouring the pic once you've inked it? Iz okay if you don't want me to O-o

Inkthinker In reply to binka4wing [2005-03-16 06:27:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you want to colour it, you might as well try with this version... it's not gonna get inked any time soon, what with my current project ("forever blue") and upcoming work.

But it is something I ought to do...

yes, i'd say that this is one shweet image.
Altough the head is slightly small, it does give better effect to the fore-shortening, tho.... i'm not really feelin' her left lower leg & foot [the one in the foreground].... it's looks a little odd to me.. but it's still all good.. i like her face mostly.... great style.. simple yet expressess enuff to get the msg thru

This is a great drawing, better than anything I could do. The only thing that bothers me really is the area under her right breast how it transitions to the waist. Maybe I'm imagining things, but it seems unnatural to me. Really like the attitude and the gloves and rings and such, lots of character.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Inkthinker In reply to Grinning-Oni [2003-11-05 05:18:19 +0000 UTC]

Mmmm... I'm actually really happy with the curve of the breast, it was... umm.. *ahem*... I just... ummm... well, I did a lot of research.

>_<

Yeah.

...

Though it's possible that my research material may have led me to draw it as if it were... augmented.

I dunno, anyone else not liking the twins there?

Grinning-Oni In reply to Inkthinker [2003-11-05 06:00:35 +0000 UTC]

hurm...I didn't mean the breast itself, so much as the area directly under where the breast connects to the torso. I'm guessing that's the bottom of the ribcage I'm looking at, mostly it seems kind of too rounded and meeting the body at an odd angle.
