Description One morning, as can be read in Þrymskviða, Tor had woken up, and found his hammer, Mjølner missing. Now, this of course, had angered him greatly. And even worse should it be, when after some searching, it was discovered, that the hammer was in the hands of the jotne Trym.
Who refused to give it back, unless he got to marry the beautiful goddess Frøya.

This is, by the way, not the first time a jotne had asked for her. The observant reader may remember her as one of three goddesses asked for by that other jotne, in payment for finishing his wall within one winter.
Anyway…

Now, this is where I should point out just how important Mjølner was.
So important in fact, that æsene, the gods, were actually considering giving Frøya over to him.
That is when Frøya put her foot down.
She was a vane.
An ancient nature god.
Older than any of them.
This an easily forgotten fact, seeing as she was such a beauty.
She was not going to be swayed.

Not only was she deity of love and fertility, but also of war and death.
You did not mess with her.
In fact, her anger at the suggestion alone, was enough to shake Åsgard.

“I already lent you my falcon dress so you could fly the world looking for the hammer, if you want it back, you can get it yourself.”
Get it himself…
Yeah…

This is the backstory to that time Tor put two rocks down his dress, and disguised himself as Frøya.
Tor the thunder god.
Tor the macho man.

With Loke as his bridesmaid.
Because of course..
That is just going to work perfectly, isn’t it…

The funny thing is…
It did.
I don't know if Trym was simply stupid, blind, or if it was Tors veil doing a herculean effort in hiding  his beard. And even then, the sheer size of the man must have looked somewhat peculiar.
Even so, it worked.

Even when the whole masquerade had met with bumps along the road, that was nothing Loke couldn’t smooth over.

The fact that the “bride”, in classical Tor-fashion at the pre wedding party had eaten a whole bull, eight fishes, all the cakes meant for the women, and drunk three barrels of mead… that was no problem according to Loke the bridesmaid. That nor the brides piercing eyes should be payed any attention.
“You see, she hasn’t managed to eat nor sleep for eight days. She was so longing to see you.”

This explanation had satiated Trym. Who had asked the bride for a kiss.
In his best falsetto, Tor had said that he wanted to see the hammer first.

And well… you can imagine the rest.
