- Give me one reason – Any reason at all– why I should let you enter.

The old fortress was pockmarked at the feet,
Where people had tried hacking their way through.
Never quite finding the cornerstone.
You would think it couldn’t be that hard.
There were only four corners after all.

The smell of molten tar hang faintly in the air.
And now they asked him for a reason to let him in.
Even though they knew damned well that they were going to reject any reason he might give them.
What was he to answer?

In all his years passing by, he had never seen anyone enter.
Nor leave for that matter.

Just thinking about it, made him shudder.
“They must be so inbred in there.”
“Does anyone even live there?”
“What is so important, that it needs this kind of protection?”

- Hello? Are you going to answer?
- … Never mind.

Once again, he had given up.
Turned on the heel.
And left.

He didn't know, back then, how correct he had been.
