Nukekubi (抜け首) — an intriguing yokai, similar to rokurokubi . Unlike their long-necked counterparts, nukekubi’s heads detach completely when sleeping. Unburdened with a neck, nukekubi are much faster and more free in movement. Also much more violent. At night nukekubi’s head attacks people and animals, shrieks, drinks blood. However, if you harm of hide the body, in the morning the head would smash itself on the floor.In daytime nukekubi live like ordinary people, sometimes having no idea about the nighttime revelry of their own heads.

Нукэкуби (抜け首)— занимательный японский ёкай, "родственник" рокурокуби. В отличие от длинношеих собратьев, голова нукэкуби полностью отделяется от тела во время сна. Не обремененные шеей, нукэкуби проворнее и свободнее в передвижении. А заодно гораздо кровожаднее: по ночам головы нападают на людей и животных, визжат и пьют кровь. Впрочем, если повредить или спрятать тело, голова по утру разобьётся об пол.
Днем нукэкуби живут как обычные люди, и далеко не всегда в курсе ночных "похождений" собственных голов.

Interesting work!
This reminded me for some reason of a an old japanese film,a sort of a compilation of folk horror stories. The film is called Kwaidan.

Cool. I didn't know there was a Japanese version of the legend. I did know about the Cambodian version, called an ahp. She a bit more gruesome, as the internal organs stay attached to the head, hanging down from it. The women also have to wear scarves to conceal the cut between the head and neck.
