Description
Our friendliest & largest rooster, Mars is among my favorites of the flock. His comb is a bit dirty in this shot, but it's at least in tact.Frostbite has recently damaged it this winter, so he won't be photogenic again for a while.

I was so close and he didn't back off.

Not at all.
We've had aggressive roosters before, so we really appreciate Mars.

We put vaseline on ours in the winter and it protects them from the extreme cold and frostbite. Thought that might help. He sure is a handsome fella.

Very handsome rooster. He must freeze most of the winter where do you keep him

In the coop under a heat lamp.
If only he'd lower his head like the hens do when they sleep.

what a beautiful rooster....you can hardly notice it but does he stay out in the cold?

Innocentium In reply to Doll-Ladi [2013-02-23 12:53:27 +0000 UTC]
He roosts with the hens, under a lamp in the coop. But, he doesn't lower his head for warmth like the hens do, which leaves his comb exposed.
