Description This has honestly been a long time coming, Sandbox was always a neat alien to me even if he was only mentioned once. The mystery of his design I'm sure has had fans speculating what he'd ultimately look like. A lot of fans settled on KJmarch's design for years, including myself. It's sort of egregious of me to be up in arms of people using my work without permission, meanwhile I'm sorta doing the same thing by riding his coattails by just using his design and putting it in a pseudo-omniverse art style.

To correct my hypocrisy and think a bit more outside the (sand)box, I took a bit of inspiration from Gravattack for the face, and went from there. Adding a few elements that just made me think of sand, such as the pyramids. I like the idea of him being able to solidify different minerals in his body create somewhat denser parts he could use for bludgeoning. He doesn't walk, but much like Goop,he can fly freely through the airΒ by loosening his body to ride currents or slide swiftly.

Amazing design for a mystery alien. Every bit of him makes him look alien. The pyramids are a nice touch, along with the two mouths and the eyes. Great design overall

I really, REALLY like this design! The gradient of sand colours looks amazing, and the overall shape and posture is fitting for sandbox
my only complaint are the mouths; they aren’t bad, they just look odd in context
either way, amazing!
(speaking of these name-only aliens, I have a theory that terraspin was meant to be shellhead, but had his name changed for- some reason)

Insane-Mane In reply to MrHat7Seven [2019-05-29 04:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! Although I'm not sure what makes the mouths odd in this context, he's an alien sand creature. As another person said it best, it really adds to his amorphousness.Β

I've seen that theory around, and while I do see the connection (big turtle), Kenny's description of Shellhead seems much more passive than what we've actually seen of Terraspin an how he utilizes his abilities.Β

MrHat7Seven In reply to Insane-Mane [2019-05-29 10:31:18 +0000 UTC]

No problem! And, fair enough I suppose. They(along with all the rocks and stuff) do make him stand out and less of a possible goop ripoff

Yeah that’s really the only thing debunking the theory, tho it’s interesting that there exists two turtle-like aliens in the Ben 10 lore
Speaking of shellhead, I’ve always imaged him as being one of those β€˜future turtles’ that are like taller than most large dinosaurs, making his sheer size his main power

It's so nice to see a unique version of Sandbox around. Also, two questions: A. What is this guy's home planet and species and B. Will you ever redo Snakepit and Shellhead?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Insane-Mane In reply to AveryCoraWilliams [2019-05-28 05:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

A. I suppose a fitting name for his planet could be something like Duneras, a planet seeming to be completely barren when visited, but teeming with life in the endless amount of sand the covers it. The inhabitants, known as the Granimorph, are underdeveloped but still live in societies closed off from other planets. They do not take well to offworlders and hide in plain sight.Β

B. Not sure? Snakepit I feel like I could make more interesting in terms of suit design, but I could try to reshape his structure a bit more. Shellhead I think is okay, for the most part.

AveryCoraWilliams In reply to Insane-Mane [2019-05-28 06:26:14 +0000 UTC]

I think that's pretty clever. My version of the alien, I guess you could call it, is somewhat mollask-like in shape and comes from the Andromeda planet Dusta-Raymes (something to explain why it took so long to introduce him), where he is a member of the constantly migrating Egymorph species. His species is somewhat dim and primal, but are full of surprises. His moveset is somewhat like the Yellow Devil's, where he leaps out of his box and slams into his enemy as either several balls of "sand" or as a sort of vortex of this organic mineral material. His body is made up of an organic silicate material that is powered by the "box", which serves as both body and mind. The transformation form has a green, purple, and black box with traditional Egymorphic symbols etched into it. He also can understand the strange language of his species (which are a bunch of odd noises that compose a primitive linguistic system) and sometimes slips into it when angered. His main weakness would be his low intelligence and the box, which acts sort of like Goop's anti-gravity projector, and can result in serious bodily harm and a migraine if damaged.Β

Honestly, I would just put Shellhead on Terraspin's planet and make him somewhere between a beetle and a tortoise, then give him telepathic powers to both enhance his empathy skills and his tactical strategies. His thing would be his very wise, peaceful demeanor that can serve as both a great way to distract enemies or to solve a dangerous battle peacefully (hence why Kenny Tennyson didn't like him very much, since he's meant for peace missions only). His shell would be nearly indestructible and would somewhat cover his head. The species name would be "Quis sapien", literally meaning "wise one" in Latin. Snakepit, on the other hand, I handled by giving him aspects of both a pit viper and a spitting cobra and an ability to duplicate if severed, similar to Buzzshock, and have dual snake trunks for legs. This is mostly to give a reason for the name "Snakepit", as I imagined a situation where Ben ended up filling a giant pit full of Snakepit clones, and the bad guy commented on it, leading to Ben giving Snakepit his name. I gave him the species name "Viperdae" and the planet name "Ophidia Prime", located in our galaxy, and being accidentally unlocked sometime after Ben gained Master Control. The other two were added during missions abroad in the cosmos.Β

Didn't mean to ramble on there. What do you think of these ideas for them? Whether they be good or bad isn't very important. I just look forward to more of your stuff, man. Keep it up!Β

Those are super intriguing bios for those guys! Very thorough and well-parsed out. Funny thing about that Snakepit idea, I've actually been conceptualizing something for my "reboot" project where I've given him a similar duplication ability, but instead of something like Buzzshock or even Ditto, it's more like a hydra. Whatever limb he loses, he gains another. I was contemplating on either having him spit acid or a hallucinogenic that can incapacitate an enemy. Still gotta work out other ideas in the future!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AveryCoraWilliams In reply to Insane-Mane [2019-05-28 07:20:23 +0000 UTC]

I'd say Snaky could spit both. It all depends on where he spits the venom. Would he have several heads to start with or would that happen upon chopping his head off? Also, when does Benny unlock Snakepit?Β

Insane-Mane In reply to AveryCoraWilliams [2019-05-28 07:36:55 +0000 UTC]

That's true, I think the inspiration mainly comes from that scene from Jurassic Park where the Dilophosaurus attacks Nedry in the Jeep, so maybe a direct hit to the eyes can make the opponent hallucinate? Yikes...

Snakepit, I think, would make for a fun Ben 10,000 alien. A lot of the unseen guys will either be going to Ben 10K or Kenny.

All righty. Say, any plans on remaking some of the non-canon aliens, like Plantapocalypse? If not, that's cool. Though, what're your thoughts on them?Β

Personally, I think Plantapocalypse is just a funny idea in general, being a cute little flower that has the power to eat anything and is capable of growing to the size of a planet. Plus, who knows what other powers he could have! Maybe he could fire seed bullets from the soil in his pot or grow other members of his species to assist until the watch conks out? I dunno, but I wish he was a canon one. Though, Bob the Blob is pretty dumb. Maybe he's a subspecies of Polymorph that went in a WEIRD direction? And what about Antigravitesla, or as I like to call him, proto-Gravattack. Wasn't it said that he floated off into space due to his powers not working right? Regardless, they are still cool and I wish Man of Action allowed Ben use of them, even if just by mention, like Ventrilosquid.Β

Insane-Mane In reply to AveryCoraWilliams [2019-05-28 11:08:36 +0000 UTC]

I am using Bob the Blob for something, but I don’t think I’ll touch upon that just yet.

A lot of those guys are obv supposed to be silly, but I’m sure (like you’ve just done for Plantapocalypse) fans can give them SOME type of redeeming quality.
And if not, no biggie. Not every alien is gonna be useful and super powerful. I feel like that really shows the vastness of the universe in Ben 10, and adds to the fact the Omnitrix was made for peace, not combat. By adding β€œuseless guys”, it gives that statement more validity.
