Everyone thought he didn't smile enough. His family (not that he wanted to impress that lot of losers), his acquaintances, the few people he could consider friends, and even complete strangers. All of them ignorantly assumed he'd look so much more handsome without that trademark scowl on his face, that those small smirks and amused twitches were much better. They showed a softer side of him, a better side.

"Your eyes light up when you aren't scowling."

"There, that looks much better."

They didn't realize that each small gesture of happiness from him was anything but.

He knew however. He knew when he really smiled.

When one or more of the scum of his country cornered him in a dark alley, knives glinting lowly.

The quick slice to each of his cheeks with practiced ease.

Spray of blood, sliding down his face and into his throat.

Hollow chuckle, head tilting back as more blood trickled down his torn cheeks.

Now. Now he was really smiling.
