Description Sorry, but that's what I think. Your brain hasn't fully developed until you're 20. And yes, you are technically using drugs. Since alchohol is classified as a drug in my opinion. In my country, it is considered alright if a twelve year old starts drinking... People are starting to abuse alchohol way too much.

DRINKING IN GENERAL SHOULDN'T BE ACCEPTED

Many of my OCs are underage drinkers.
But here's other things they do that they're underage for:
1. Flying aircraft/spaceships
2. Swearing like sailors
3. Killing criminals
4. Shooting people
5. Building nukes
6. Blowing shit up
7.Owning guns in general
8. Being mercenaries
To name one, you have Winston, my flagship OC.
He does all these things and he's only physically 7 years old.
Mentally though, he's an adult.
He has the brainpower and problem solving ability of a 30 year old PhD pretty much.
Then again, he's MEANT to be evil, but with morals. He'd never hurt anyone related to him or any of his friends or anyone who is innocent.
But if he knows someone to be a pedo or any other sort of human scum, he'd hunt them down and shoot them in the face point-blank with an automatic rocket launcher.
Underage drinking is bad in real life, but in fiction it's fine if it's integral to the character or plot.

If you're 16 and over it's fine as long as you're being supervised by a trusted adult who isn't drinking. And no I don't think you should ever drink it can cause you to be violent, but you should have the right to. If you abuse it you alone are at fault.

When I was younger, I accidentally mistook a beer for a soda and ended up taking a sip from it. Does that count?

nah, i don’t think so.

i remeber being at a house party and getting a can of β€œsoda” from the cooler thinking it was ginger ale, i took a sip and thought it tasted off so i checked the can and it was actually beer lmao. i was like 6 at the time and it’s not like i’m behind bars or anything.

Some researches state that it takes 25 years for your brain to fully develop (at least it was in my school book), but dunno if there are individualistic changes. True, I don't support it either. Actually, my country has quite a problem about it and drinking in general, the long drinking history doesn't do it any good. Or maybe it does? At least, it seems like more and more younger generations choose to be teetotallers. Well, alcohol destroys brain cells every time you drink it but the worst damage is when you're underage. In my country, 18 is considered an adult, so... And some cannot even wait till then.

On a side note, I find it interesting how in Medieval times or in the Iron Ages for instance, beer was often the main drink. Of course, it was cleaner and perhaps not so strong as the beer nowadays back then, but it's still interesting to think of even young children drinking that stuff or even... wine. ^^

Thank you for making this stamp.

And it's just not the kids who are interested in drinking underage who are to blame.Β  Some parents are at fault as well.Β  There are parents who host underage drinking parties under the belief that "they'll do it anyway, so I'd rather they do it under my roof."Β  Well, if you feel that powerless, then you shouldn't be having kids.

Actually, they've pushed up the brain development to 26, and some are proposing even further. This is our advantage as a species: we are highly flexible learners and mental adapters well into adulthood.

But, when we make the mistake of thinking we are "adult" at 13 or 16 or 18, that's where problems start. Sex, carcinogenic drugs (alcohol) and crushing responsibility of keeping with breakneck pace modern life is breaking all of our necks.Β

Eh, I think it's okay to an extent. For example, I don't think a glass of wine every now and then will hurt. (In fact, some studies have shown that it's beneficial.) I also can't help but think it's illogical that you can die for your country at 18 but aren't considered old enough to have a little drink until you're 21. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Overall, I think alcohol should be consumed in moderation, and that goes for everyone, of all ages. Getting shitfaced isn't good for you regardless of how old you are. Β  Β

Espicially when the parents let their child consume it. Β One time when I use to be in school, a girl in my art class talked about how her dad lets her drink and, she acted as if she was bragging about it. That is nothing to brag about. She was lucky that no one reported what she said to the police and arrest her dad and, I hated her so much that I would have probably been the one who would do it.

i think drinking is ok as long as you keep it under control.

when i'm 15 i'll have maybe 2 or 3 drinks every now and then because i learnt from my fathers mistake of binge drinking every weekend.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

minustwoseventhree In reply to JamesxSummers [2013-08-29 14:35:17 +0000 UTC]

Actually, recent studies have shown that even small amounts of alcohol can cumulate in the liver and heighten your chance of liver failure by about 10%. Not as much as people that drink constantly, but it's worth keeping in mind.

And when you're 15, your body is still developing. Your brain goes through a lot of chemical changes and drinking can totally throw these off course and contribute to psychosis and/or depression.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

JamesxSummers In reply to minustwoseventhree [2013-08-29 14:42:19 +0000 UTC]

i haven't drunk alcohol before ( cept when i was an infant and my dad thought it would be easier to grab steinlager rather than my bottle )

but yeah. it's still dangerous i agree. But if people like to drink and are decently in control to where they don't pass out on the floor or anything of the like

i say why not. if you're older than the legal drinking age it's your choice.

nikkissippi121 [2012-08-03 22:27:40 +0000 UTC]

I used to think this, but recently... I really don't care that much. I don't support it, but I think by the time you're 16 or so that you're smart enough to make your own decisions. Besides, countries that allow young children to consume small amounts of alcohol, etc. actually have much lower alcoholism rates. It takes away the mystery and "power" alcohol seems to have.
Now, what I don't get is why anyone likes it. I've had 2 sips of beer and 2 of wine (the wine from my mom, the beer from my aunt and sister, respectively), the first when I was 13, the most recent 2 months ago (I'm 17), and it is TERRIBLE. Alcohol is just plain gross!

personally, I have no problem with it if it's done responsibly. hell I'm only 17 yet I drink alcohol, but it's never a major drunk session. I've never been drunk in my life because I know the damage it can cause so I try my hardest to drink responsibly and I always have my mum supervising me. not because I'm a pussy and afraid of getting drunk, because it's against the law for me to drink without any supervision even if I drink responsibly.
Yes, alcohol is a drug, but like all drugs if used in moderation, it doesn't cause harm. A scientific study has proved a glass of red wine once a day is actually beneficial to your health. not that I drink a glass of red wine every night. I drink more like once or twice a month and it's usually one can of vodka or a glass of wine, that's it, nothing more.
But that's my opinion on this c:

I find it really hard to define what a global "underage" drinking age.
Since yes, USA is 21 but there are a lot of countries where it's only 16 and there are really no harsh laws.
And those countries seem to have less problems with drinking that the US because its so disallowed. People want to rebel.
