Description Something I started one night while looking at my visual dictionary. It’s based slightly or should I say exaggerated from one of my dreams. In the actual dream I was waking up and walking downstairs and then seeing myself still sleeping again and again. Each time I was trying so hard to wake up and couldn't until the 6th try. Anyway this doesn’t even compare to how crazy some of my other dreams are.

And now this is my entry for s dreams contest

mediums used: colored pencils, pen, and markers

Your life is of colour and that as I feel is the way you see and express in your art.

Aww shucks thanks, yeah this one is probably my favorite traditional drawing of all my work. Hopefully I can draw another one of my dreams in the future.

Yes, you should keep a (visual)dreamdiary and see what comes up, if you dont already have one.
Ive only drawn one dream, and its really weird I just dreamt about a still image and cant remember any kind of setting to it. I tried to paint it and it sucked, but it worked as a pen drawing: [link]

Yeah actually I do have a dream journal, although I only write them down and haven't used it for a long time now. Mostly just remember my dreams these days and can figure out what they mean right away. But yeah that is a really great idea.

Nice! I had two really intense dreams last night, i should definetly make a dream diary myself. Its really nice to have!

Do you remember them? I would love to interpret them...with my four dream dictionaries.

rannveigfunderud In reply to insignificantartist [2011-07-29 22:20:03 +0000 UTC]

I do remember them, but its a bit too much to explain i think. How do you use dream dictionaries? I thought that was just a list of what people in general associate with different things and symbols. If you are aware of your own mind, do they really help much?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

insignificantartist In reply to rannveigfunderud [2011-07-29 22:27:52 +0000 UTC]

Actually they do help a little bit especially if it's something that you have no idea how it wound up being in your dream. And then you can read what it supposably means and most of the time it's right lol, that is maybe one of them and the rest aren't.

Love it! Surreal art is just the best, and I totally suck at it, which is why you will find none in my gallery. So awesome that you based this on a dream.

insignificantartist In reply to BloodyVoodoo [2010-12-01 08:46:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I think if you had an interesting enough concept you could totally rock some surreal art, since you already are an expert when it comes to realism. It's just about stretching the imagination or just drawing a dream the way you dreamt it. Or take the normal and make it the abnormal, make things alive that usually aren't, combine two different things into one. Or do the common dreams like falling, flying, running away from something, really the possibilities are endless.

I'll have to give it a try some time. Your surreal art is genius! Certainly very inspiring.

This is grandiosa. It is so incredibly eerie! It actually wrenches at me seeing the supposed sleeping you holding the heart and then the sweet dreams with the skull.

The stairs that seem to go forever are awful in themselves. Some dreams where you lead nowhere no matter how far you go can be the worst. Especially when you become consciously aware.

The freakiest part by far is the face trapped in the box!

Sublime!

Gosh thank you for such a stellar comment, it really means a lot to me! Especially when I hear that my work makes a person feel something, I mean that's my goal no wonder I like this piece. Even if it reminds me of my most terrifying nightmare. Have you ever had a dream that you couldn't wake up from right away?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kurosaki7 In reply to insignificantartist [2009-12-24 20:30:31 +0000 UTC]

That is what it is all about, evoking emotion in others

It may have been terrifying but it makes for great work so have more

I have had heaps of those dreams. I used to have some downright awful ones where I would be conscious of what was happening and trying to change what was occurring or wake up. One of them involved spiders *shudder* I think the worst one was where I woke up paralysed, ack!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

insignificantartist In reply to kurosaki7 [2009-12-26 23:22:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah spiders are terrifying, what were they crawling all over you in your dream? Hehe you should check out my Creepy crawly insects and arachnoids collection on here.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kurosaki7 In reply to insignificantartist [2009-12-27 13:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Well to begin with they were plotting behind the scenes deciding what to do about the increase in spider deaths when I was around haha So then I had dreams a while after that of waking up in bed with spiders everywhere, literally taking up the whole room but my dream made it seem that this was reality. However after this the dream progressed, we seemed to come to some understanding that as long as they stayed out of sight I would leave them alone while I came to terms with my fear.

Then a couple of months after those dreams went away! As for your creepy crawlies, just how creepy and crawly are we talking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

insignificantartist In reply to kurosaki7 [2009-12-28 07:17:24 +0000 UTC]

I assume this was in Australia right? Now if only spiders could come to the same understanding and just come out to crawl on people and walk into their open mouths like every other bug probably does when you're sleeping and wake up coughing for no reason. [link]
Anyways it's not that creepy in fact I find some very rare shots of spiders kind of cute-> [link] not to mention there's tons of butterfly photos in there, a couple of my top favorites-> [link] [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kurosaki7 In reply to insignificantartist [2009-12-28 17:04:44 +0000 UTC]

This actually was not in Australia, it was when I was younger and I was playing with a torch that I had stuck on top of my knex creation. I then shone the torch up the dark gap in our porch and down came the most gigantic garden spider, thick hairy legs and with orange stripes. From that day I had the dreams!!

Eurgh thanks for those links, did not need to see those. Will take me a while to shake that imagery! I have got to give it to you that shot is not so bad but 'tis still a spider and I will get the thought of what those little legs would feel like running over me!

I do find some insects really intriguing and not creepy, especially butterflies but some are just plain wrong!
