I think you did a great job on her. Don't worry about missing out on Dragonball. It's got some interesting stuff in it... but gets really repetitive and does some, IMHO, dumb stuff.

Dragon Ball was the better show. But the reason why is thanks to something terrible, and the cause of "really repetitive" part. Akira Toriyama got tangled into a contract to make new Manga for Dragon Ball Z with too tight of deadlines, which really killed his creativity for plots.
So instead of the world exploring and encountering characters in new fantastic situations of Dragon ball, he (and he admits to this) started to re-use the same basic premise over and over again. like a template...and totally ignoring things like just how over-powered and inconsistent with that the characters got over time. (New stronger enemy appears, train, get stronger, fight).

Well, she was able to have a daughter with Krillin, so she couldn't be completely artificial. Β Plus, she and her brother Lapis/#17 were referred to as cyborgs in the manga and the Dragon Ball Wiki.
