Description
Commission for of Sue Graham (Robotech), or Shinobu Takeuchi (Genesis Climber Mospeada), in military uniform. A reimagination of her character based on her Robotech counterpart's version as an intelligence officer, which her occupation is reflected through her uniform. It felt like a wasted opportunity for Mospeada creators to have a female in a non-skirt military uniform instead of a jumpsuit with hard to discern patterns. Based on the uniforms worn by Third Liberation Fleet in Robotech/Mospeada but with Jupiter Base insignia from (scavenged?) armor worn by Rook in Robotech, or Houqet in Mospeada.

I understand the frustration. I wish there was an affordable book with a lot of designs, character, mecha, weapons, concept art etc... but other then general google searches, I've found very little good stuff

Robotech was a re-write of necessity! Certain story events didn't translate directly because of uber-plot, etc,and were replaced when they conflicted with the narrative. Genesis Climber MOSPEADA had little in the way of direct alteration of content, although several episodes were re-arranged for the sake of Robotech's story continuity. Not so bad as Southern Cross though, which was changed a lot to fit the story.Β

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you what the Japanese team did for story production & adaptation. MOSPEADA books are rare anymore, and I have trouble reading the small kanji in the related material I do have. They did a great job with the story though, which was pretty thoughtful for an era of mecha anime that wanted to follow up on SDF Macross, but often didn't get the budget or story to match it. It's worth noting that the anime marked the TV debut of Studio ArtMIC (now AIC), which would go on to make Mega Zone 23, Gall Force, and Bubble Gum Crisis. They eventually got to do a Macross anime, but not many people were impressed.

Sadly, Mospeada suffered from budget cuts and other executive meddling behind the scenes, making them have to wrap things up sooner than they had planned. If it weren't for that, Shinobu/Sue might have got more screen time and development. Mospeada's inclusion in Robotech saved the series from oblivion, and for that I'll always be grateful to Ol' Carl.

I didn't know that. As good as Macross is I like the Mospeada world better
