"Say Yes!" to this fine anime fan work.  Sonoda proves once again that he has many ways of drawing attractive women.

The original BGC soundtracks have massive replay value.

Magnificent!  One of their characters who I wish they had done more with ...

Well even this version might have done more if Bubble Gum Crash hadn't crashed.

There was a lot of stuff that got left on the shelf when Artmic joined the list of anime companies wrong-footed left by the Great Departure of animators to the video game industry. The BGC game books published by R. Talsorian back in the day show a lot of cool stuff. Vision as Knight Saber #5 would have been awesome!

I agree with you there.  Not surprised with the mass-migration though.  There is much more money to be had in the video game industry these days.

I saw it happen in my shiny-eyed n00b w33b fan days. In the space of a year of laser discs and TV trade tapes we went in terms of quality from Rhea Gall Force to Gall Force Earth One, and from Bubble Gum Crisis 8: Scoop Chase to Bubble Gum Crash One: Popsicle Stick-Neck Army. The animation for the Gall Force OVA was so bad due to newbie animators that Artmic put an official apology message on the LD jacket. (We had seen a trade tape version and thought there had been an error, and an unfinished version had been released instead. Nope!) Having the Crash-style Knight Sabers look like they shared dressing rooms with the Sailor Moon girls didn't help either. The TV shows for the season were quality whiplash! In video games though the new console & PC games showed a quantum jump in animation, art, and story. (Some of the writers must have gone over too, since many non-manga adapted OVA & TV anime abruptly went through some uninspired writing.)

Mm ... a lot of this I didn't know.  Then again, I haven't been keeping up with anime for a long time now.

I was an otaku before it was unpopular.

I became one around 1990 and I have one of the largest store-bought collections around.  For the most part, I stopped buying anime because I got turned off by the lack of story and the fun.  It became more of dark storytelling (if any) or just covering themes I had grown out of.  Oh, I'm not saying that there is not any good anime any more.  But ones like Bubblegum Crisis, Dominion Tank Police, and Ranma 1/2 are gone.  In their places are shows that are either poor homages or lacking in that spark that kept me buying the shows.

Now, before people start tossing out their favorite shows and trying to prove there are some good ones out there ... remember this: I work for a living and without a guide to get through and find the shows that are worth watching, it's become too much of a chore.  Besides, here in Savannah, the market has died out.  And I dislike the free websites where they post the works for free.

For me, anime was a good time to remember.  I keep what I had to go back to it ... someday.

I watched my first non-adapted anime straight from Japan (sort of) in late 1987, so we are comrades in fandom!   I survived the Great Anime Desert of  the 2000-2010 era, when there were about 3-5 shows per season actually worth keeping, due to the mad scramble for attention and an obsessive devotion to quick-fix sales that seemed to rely on TV Tropes lists & fanboy pandering, rather than deeper story. But things got better, espescially as the guys our age got into command positions in the anime studios and went back to the future to put the spark back into anime. That aside, every now and again I watch the old beloved anime again, to remind myself why I got into it.

If nothing else, watch RWBY, an American-made anime series done for the fun of it, by people who know their anime. Four volumes in, and they helping a new generation accept anime tropes we took for granted back in the day.

Sorry, but I'm going to pass on RWBY ... I watched the first episode and it turned me off.  It seemed so unfocused and so lacking in anything that would keep me watching it.
