Vixen is one of those characters I think could be ridiculously over powered if she used the right animal power, like giving herself Poison dart frog power or something

I thought that exact same thing too.Β It's one of the reason why I've felt three of the most "dangerous" (not powerful but dangerous) supers in DC are Beast Boy, Vixen, and Animal Man for this very reason.Β Heck, Beast Boy can crush Deathstroke easily by flying above him as a pigeon and then becoming a humpback whale.Β SPLAT!

welll, yes and no, Β Beast boy has the problem that depending on what he turns into he could become weaker by virtue of growing smaller, Β but yeah makes you wonder why he doesn't more often just hurl himself at enemies and turn into a whale, im pretty sure even a baddie like darkside would feel a slight ache from having a whale tossed at him XD.
as for Animal man, his power is kinda contrived because it relys on the notion that useful animals are around to combine, Β theres just one problem with this logic though, Animals have an acute sense to flee from danger, like say a big fight with super heroes and villains, so there really shouldn't be any animals laying around for him to use, Β though one element he doesn't exploit is that Human being are a type of animal, so hypothetically he should be able to take a random person and merge it into a villain making them a combined conjoined twin type abomination and their for useless in a fight, pretty sure even Darkside wont be fighting his A game with one or two rando civilians conjoined to him like surgically attached bean bag chairs XDΒ
Vixen is OP because she gets to remain as durable as a human being but exploit the powers of any animal she wants.

I remember Grant Morrison playing around with Animal Man's powers and having him do stuff like multiply into millions of himself by duplicating a cold germ and becoming a cosmic being by synching with a Sun Eater (and those suckers are strong enough that a division of Green Lanterns are needed to fight just one).Β But this was all pre-Flashpoint and I think the new52 version is more mystical and has limits.
EDIT: Also writers usually nerf heroes so their powers don't automatically end fights.Β This was really bad in books with a telepath like Jean Grey in the X-Men or Martian Manhunter in JLA.Β Unless it involves mindless robots, the fights should end as soon as they show up.Β I imagine the same is with heroes like BB, Buddy Baker, and Vixen.
