I wouldn't say it's awesome as other had said, but it does look cool. But what are we trying to achieve, just something cool looking, of course not, you want something that will blow people away and still be cool. To me and to many other people, it does look plain and empty, although it's suppose to be a wallpaper you can still fill in the space with out the icons interfering with the art work.
You can:
add some text (typography)
just more than a line followed by a grid
have a another render
anything to fill in space and make it more interesting

wow, cool piece! great render! the icy and sharp feeling is brought out really well by this piece. I think you could do a similar render on the other sides- top, bottom or on the left so it's more complex and fills up the space. or even try some different colours or a different shade of blue as the main colour. some 2D would spice it up too. keep up the good work!

that is a very nice render to work with. I think there are times where 2D helps the piece, luckilly for you this isn't one of them

I've never been a huge fan of 2d honestly...I like the design as it is, to be honest. It's not as busy as a lot of other desktops (easier on the eyes
