thats something i'm learning too
not the paper though i miss drawing on paper
but learning anatomy.
i think u shouldn't draw backgrounds just as yet.
focus on the main object first.

pointers? ok....u need to improve on ur anatomy drawing and also getting ur lines cleaner before digital painting. u can probably re trace ur drawings with bolder single lines over ur original sketches.

I wouldn't consider much of gradation or colors yet, coz once u get the drawings perfect shadings and colors will come later.
