Aug 16, 2006. About 5:45am. Hubby taking a gander at the Butler Flats lighthouse at the entrance to New Bedford harbor.

Edit: The above is kind of misleading if you care about geography (I almost always lost Trivial Pursuit because of that damn category!)

So anyway, the Point of View is SSE toward the Atlantic, not toward the harbor. If you full-view this image, the land to the left of the lighthouse is Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The grey mass across the horizon is the Elizabeth Islands. They run in an east-west chain from the heel of Cape Cod which is (I believe) about 15 miles southeast of the tip of Fairhaven.

Tomorrow's lesson will involve celestial navigation. Class dismissed!
