When I watched Madoka Magica for the first time last summer, I instantly fell in love with Mami. For a character that didn't get a whole lot of screen time, she sure has a lot of depth! Plus, I couldn't help loving her absolutely adorable magical girl costume design. I had to cosplay her!

To tell the truth, I was terrified of cosplaying a hugely popular character like Mami. I'm nearly twice her age and I am much better at cosplaying guys . But in the end I couldn't resist and I took a lot of care in creating this costume. I see a bit of steampunk and a bit of Old Western influence in her costume design, so the fabrics I chose reflect that. Everything on this costume is handmade, including the gloves and the stockings! Most of the boots are even made from scratch and I only used the soles from another pair of boots.

The only part of the costume I'm not satisfied with is the wig. I wanted to see what I could make using only a scrap wig I had on hand and some extensions, and while it turned out okay I'm sure I can do a better job down the line.

Next up: RIFLES! Well, maybe just one. We'll see .
