Was the Mach 4 ever seen in the original series media. Before the movie, the only other case I'd seen was the rare die cast car from Johnny Lightning, and from the few pictures I can find looked more gold then red. Then again I admit to never having seen one in person.

I always prefer this version of the Mach 5 (Or Mark V, as is known in Spanish) to the one presented in the revamp of the series. Look at it: svelte, well-centerd, gravity equally distributed through the full hull.
That thing they presented was, at simple sight, terribly heavy, sluggish and it was obvious the grav center was too much aft. besides, those intakes at the sides made it seems an F-14 victim of a franchise for fried chicken!
In one word, the M5 was elegant.
I loved the show and its enthralling adventures can't easily be equaled.

I like your take on the Mach 4.
I believe that diecast model was based on a comic published by DC in 2000. I think the only other major interpretation of the Mach 4 was in the recent film.
Both are cool, and so is this picture. Very awesome!

Mach 4 of the Anime, the design is totally different than Mach 5.

Well I was using a reference from a diecast model, who's company gets almost everything right.
I did think that in the cartoon Rex drove the Mach 4 when he wrecked it and so on, but that car had the number 1 on it.
