Eclipse the Darkling, from Sonic Universe #62 / Archie ComicsNow he's angry with Shadow, I'm expecting his revenge.
I'm still figuring out how to use this site... much different from blog services.

Shadow is my absolute fav! I think I first fell in love with him when I was like 6 or 7, so I've been aΒ fan of his for a really long time. I wrote a letter to Archie comics once and Sonic wrote me back and said he would tell Shadow what a big fan of his I am!
I would have to say that Mephiles is my second fav though.

I know a great song that goes with Eclipse! It's from the movie Brother Bear, it's called Great Spirits (PhilCollins version) a lot of the lyrics say things like "The key to understanding is to see through others eyes, find a way to help us, see from all sides" it sounds likeΒ Β they are talking about poor Eclipse. Because everyone thinks Eclipse is evil BUT what if they saw the situation through HIS eyes?Β

If by that you mean it's full of cliches, then yeah, you're more than likely right, I personally have decided to embrace what I like, Cliche or not, I suppose I'm hopeless, I may even have terrible taste, but I know what I like.

When I was in middle school, I did a lot of drawing and came up with plenty of fan characters. I knew the comics existed, but wasn't really into them. What I'm saying is the creation of one character after another gives it a very grating feeling, especially regarding design. I have some old picture that I won't go to the trouble of digging up, but it's in my SNG folder. Each of the characters in it, I've sort of bonded with when I came up with them, but as a whole group, nobody likes them. More hilarious is that it's only my favorite (at the time) characters. I have 2-3 times as many more, but they feel like they go in the Archie comics.
Or, in short, I'm making no reference to clichΓ©s. When you're desperate enough, you end up coming up with very lousy character designs.
With all due respect to the awesome skill of the guy who drew this one (though the character design is not his), the design makes it seem like they wanted to have another character like Mephiles. I have no clue what he's actually like, but I'll bet if nothing else that he's more ruthless but less intelligent. THAT would be clichΓ©.

They probably were thinking of Mephiles a bit when they thought of this guy, there do seem to be some similarities, but there's differences too, for instance, I doubt he'll sneak up behind Sonic or Shadow and stab them through the back with a chaos lance, that doesn't sound like his M.O.Β He can't make pools of shadow goop and shadow minions either, Flynn basically said that "he's his visualization of what Shadow would be if he were pure black arms" I don't know if he meant that in personality as well, but I'm confident he meant that in physical appearance

that's the sclera, and funny you should mention that, a friend of mine made also a black arms character before Eclipse came around, although he's a reverse recolour of Shadow (Meant to be his biological older brother) He has scaly yellow sclera.

As for myself, the only things that set me off are a lack of logic or thought, no shame, and total deceit. I don't tolerate those. I tell someone what they're doing wrong a few times, and if they're too full of themselves and/or defending themselves with society's concept that "being offended" by anyone trying to remove and prevent problems is actually a bad thing, I let them continue to live their lies (that was sort of a pun with "lives," since it'd be the same thing at that point). Sure, I feel bad for them, but you can't easily fix something by force. The only thing that you literally CANNOT fix, at all, is somebody else's thoughts or behavior or non-thoughts. That's on them. Sure, if they dedicate to teachings or something, they'll bend, but that doesn't happen by force.
Anyway, yeah, I tell people about their mistakes, and if they deny it after the first few statements, I let 'em keep fooling themselves. I don't even live on perspective, anymore. Perspective is a limitation and only causes trouble. Full truth is how I roll.

I don't know either, but my reason is it's fun. So I read that comics. If that comics is not fun, then simply not to read. If it's fun, then continue to read. Comics is a part of the entertainment.
I'm kind of an egocentric one, so I'm really not interested in the reason why people read that comics. So if you are interested into that reason, better go to Archie Sonic-related places and ask more people. (...)

Yeah, I definitely hear you, though. I don't do anything that's boring or bothersome if it's meant for amusement, either. The comics, though, I never got into. The original issues had horrible artwork, and the more and more issues came out, the more and more characters with various tryhard designs came out, and you almost always see that in fanfics. I have my own little fan story, but I don't do anything with it because I know all it'd do is annoy people.
Still, this piece for example (don't get me wrong, you did an awesome job with it), the character's name and design are so hopelessly effortful, it reminds me of this lamoid I made named Jolt. He has a very sleek and simple design, quite similar, but with casual, basic electrical powers (just for the record, I haven't even remembered him in the last 7 years).

They make them drastically different instead of keeping them fairly different. I often times have no idea what species their characters are on sight.

If I May give my Two cents here, one of the reasons I read the comics is because it expands the world and also shows things that The games sometimes never tell. For example Amy's age from CD to Modern, its never (At least Ive never seen it) explained why she suddenly got so much older. Also why Charmy basically did the exact reverse, being from I believe 16 to 6. The Comics answer both of these questions, also in some aspects even why Sonic does not seem to show interest in Amy in the games. (Sally being his actual Love interest off the game screen)
Also it also makes references to the games to show that this is the same Sonic you're playing as on Screen (Or atleast one thats done almost exactly the same things.). Also allowing the story to expand even further than just Sonic, showing Shadow's, Silver's, Blaze's, Knuckles' and ect's own stories where the games don't sometimes. If you look at the games and such, most of course are just centered around Sonic. Still its fun to see the highs and lows of all The Sonic characters, seeing them in their own stories, battles and such. Not to mention the Comics are keeping the characters alive that haven't been on the game screen for a while, such as Silver, Blaze, Chaos or in this case The Black Arms.
Also on a Side note how you stated they are basicallyΒ a licensed Fanfic, in a way you are kinda right but also not quite. There is actualy a chapter where Sonic brings Alternate Dimensional selves together to fight a major evil.So in a way I see it, Fanfics are merely alternate Sonics with their own motivations, Love interests, powers etc(In one example could be Sonic the SpiderHog. Who is in that very old chapter, where Sonic still looked "Classic"). Any hoo Pretty long already, but I hope this shows a little why some fans may like the comics. Also it even expands on Sonic himself. But thank you any way if you took the time to read this, either way we look at it, We all like Sonic The Hedgehog.

I know the different ways people see the comics. Farbeit from me to get in anyone's way, but I was just saying I don't like them because it just sucks a lot of the good things that make Sonic so cool right out. Not as badly as Lost World, but pretty close.

Allows us too See Sonic Characters that have not been in games for a while, or at-least story wise. (Such as Silver, The Black armsΒ in this case and such)
Connects the games to each other, and answers unanswered Questions the games don't give.
Also may I ask what you mean by "Sucks alot", it merely gives Sonic more of a Background the games sometimes don't.Β Also some new Adventures we all can look into, while we wait for new games. Either way hes still the Fast Running Free Hedgehog we all know.

Um which version of Sonic are you talking about? The Comics talk about multi Verses and in one Dimension he is a Prince along with his Brother and Sister Manic and Sonia who, but that's not the same one from the games apparently. (They show when Sonic meats Sonic Underground Sonic also)

As far as Ive Seen "Prime Sonic" is Video Game Sonic, Sonic is a Prince in Sonic Underground Universe.Β Both his Parents were soldiers in the Great War (A War between Humans and Mobians), where his Mother saw her Husband shot down. His Mother I believe lives In Mobotropolis now, although I think shes retired. His Father was also Robotized to save his life, hes now the last remaining Robian.
Sonic has not been shown as a Prince, he is Shown as King when hes Much Older because he marries Sally. (Then changes History and Shadow becomes King through Force, making Shadow even Cooler lol)Β Either way Prime Sonic has no "Royal" Blood in him, Underground Sonic does.
