“Hey, Marth!” Link greeted cheerfully as he made his way out of the Mansion onto the large, stone porch. “What’s going on? Why are you just standing there?”

The Prince looked up from his spot leaning against the stone railing and shook his head. “Just observing,” he replied casually.

“Observing what?” the Hylian inquired, walking over to the railing and following Marth’s gaze over at the large oak tree in the front yard. “… Oh…”

Sheik, one of the Tournament’s most reclusive Brawlers was sulking in the shade of the large tree. He looked even more put out than usual, but Pit was actively engaging the rogue in a one-sided conversation.

“I don’t know what his problem is,” the noble Altean continued. “But he seems more down than usual today. Pit’s trying to cheer him up.”

The pair watched as the Angel fluttered around, trying to earn some form of acknowledgement from the red-eyed Sheikah. After five minutes, Sheik continued to sulk, unchallenged, and Pit returned to the comfort of the porch.

“I don’t know what to do… He doesn’t want to be alone, but he doesn’t want to be with me, either.”

The Mansion doors flew open. “Everyone back the fuck up!” Roy called, standing in the door frame before striding over to the group. “I got this.” The red head then left to confront the man under the giant tree.

“He’s a dead man,” Marth stated, watching his lover.

Roy boldly made his way over to Sheik and stood directly in front of the young man. “Man, I gotta be straight up with you; you look like a whiny, emo bitch sitting there under this tree-AHH!”

Seconds after being thrown by his shirt, the noble boy landed painfully in a bush next to the front porch, much to Marth’s amusement. “Well done, Love.”

“Gah! What is that guy’s problem!?” Roy growled as he untangled himself from the thorns. “I was just making an intellectual observation!”

“You couldn’t spell ‘intellectual’ if your sex-life depended on it,” the Prince chuckled.

“Fuck you!”

“I beg your pardon,” Zelda said, walking in on the conversation at the worst possible moment.

“Roy’s sorry, Zelda,” Marth apologized. “His brain has a hard time keeping up with his mouth.”

The fiery noble pouted in reply.

The Princess sighed and took a seat on the stone railing. “Think nothing of it.”

“Zellie,” Pit began. “Do you know what’s going on with Sheik? He’s been depressed all day…”

“It’s not just today,” the Princess corrected. “He’s been like this for a while now… I really don’t know what’s going on with him, because we haven’t had much of a chance to talk.”

Marth shrugged. “You could try talking to him now. He doesn’t look very busy to me.”

The Hylian woman nodded and walked over to the tree. She spoke to the rogue briefly, but soon returned to the others when Sheik refused to reply. “Now he won’t even speak to me. I don’t understand…”

Link, now frustrated, said, “I’ll go have a word with him.” Before anyone could stop him, the Hylian man left the porch and stormed over to the oak tree. Sheik was sitting on his heels, staring off into the distance, but he looked up when Link paused right in his line of view. The emerald clad man fixed the other with a stern look. “Okay, this has to stop.

“You’ve been pouting all day for no reason. All your friends are trying to help you, but you either attack them or ignore them. So what’s your problem? Why are you acting this way? What do you want?”

While Link fumed, Sheik quietly stood and looked the Hero in the eyes. After a moment’s hesitation, the rogue gathered Link’s shirt into his hand and lifted him off of the ground. Fearing the worst, Link closed his eyes and prayed that he would land softly on Roy’s back, only to be slammed against the tree and have Sheik’s lips pressed roughly against his own. The physical contact was electrifying and made Link weak in the knees. He was now grateful that his weight was fully supported by his shirt.

After what could have been either a second or an eternity, Sheik pulled away. Link opened his eyes just in time to watch the rogue replace the scarf over his mouth. Their eyes met and locked.

Sheik shrugged. “All I wanted was to be with you.”
