1 Week before Halloween

Pit needed only to hear the wind howling to know where he was. The room was dark and his bed was warm, yet the Angel found himself leaving the security of his soft haven to get another glimpse of the mysterious curtain outside. He found everything still as it had been the last time. The endless curtain raised to a height of two stores was still just off the property line of the mansion, only now, it was different. It was more translucent than before, allowing Pit to see the second moon that existed on the other side.

Shadows moved and shifted behind the divide, sometimes shapeless while others were more distinguished as silhouettes. The most prominent of which was positioned in the center of Pit's view. It stood just on the other side of the curtain, inches from the divide, and the Angel could feel its eyes on him, despite the distance between them.

The shadow's form rippled as if being blown by the wind that refused to budge the divide.

Who are you? Pit wondered. What do you want?

Ike.

The reply was faint, but Pit swore he heard it over the screams of the wind. Chilled to the bone, the shaking brunette pulled away from the window and the staring thing on the other side of the curtain.

"Everything okay, baby?" Ike asked, rubbing the Angel's back.

Pit smiled and nodded. "I'll be fine, Ikus. I just haven't been sleeping too good," the boy admitted with a yawn.

The mercenary's eyes softened. "I'm sorry, love. Do I snore? Steal the covers? Drool too much?"

The cherub giggled. "No no… It's not you. I just keep having this nightmare about a… curtain."

The bluenette chuckled. "Oh? Would it help if I took down the drapes in our room?"

"I don't think so. The one in my dream is outside, and it's really big."

Ike nodded and looked thoughtful. "What's behind it, or is that the scary part?"

"The scary part is, I'm starting to see what's on the other side… Creepy shadow things and they're staring at me."

The swordsman wiped the pumpkin innards off his hands and rubbed the boy's cheeks. "It'll be okay, my Angel. Those nasty monsters can't do anything to you in a dream, because it's just a bad dream… a really bad dream, and if you ever have that dream again, wake me up. I'll chase those shadows away."

Pit nodded. "Thank you, my Ikus… How's Jack?"

The bluenette smiled and turned the pumpkin around. "Pretty spooky looking, if you ask me."

"Very! You did a really good job with it! You think it'll be better than what Roy and Marth come up with?"

Ike replaced the top on the jack-o-lantern and picked it up. "Hands down, baby. No one can do better than us."

"Hello," Marth greeted, walking in just in time to see the couple's creation. "Nicely done. I like the pointed teeth, and the slit eyes are a nice touch."

"Thanks man," the mercenary replied. "Where's your Jack?"

The Prince sighed. "Roy insisted that let him carve the pumpkin, so I came in here to chat with the two of you while inwardly cringing."

Ike nodded sympathetically.

"Do you have a costume yet?" Pit asked, patting his pumpkin, enjoying the hollow thunk it makes.

"Yeah, I'm going to dress like Roy and Roy's going to dress like me."

"What's the theme?" Ike asked, smiling at Pit.

"Opposites."

The door flew open, banging off the wall loud enough to make the Angel jump. Seconds later, Roy rushed in holding the pumpkin against his chest, a big grin on his face. "Done," he stated simply. Too simply for Marth's liking.

"Do I even want to know?" the Prince asked.

Roy grinned wider and turned the pumpkin to reveal its face.

Marth groaned and face-palmed.

"Come on, Pit," Ike said softly, covering the youth's eyes. "Let's go."

The red head rolled his eyes. "Oh, yeah, Ike. Like Pit's never seen a dic-"

"ROY!" Marth snarled.
