Through The Years^v^v^v^v^
Year 1
Link sat in the plush arm chair of the Smash Mansion's common room, watching as the Christmas guests made their way around the party. It was the only time of the year that visitors were allowed from homeworlds, so nearly everyone had taken advantage of it.
The Hylian swirled his glass of cider as he tried to guess where certain people might have come from.
"Pardon," a soft voice began from behind. The blonde turned around to greet the individual by when he saw the lovely, dark youth partially hidden by the chair, his heart nearly stopped.
Undaunted, the stranger inquired, "Where did you get your cider? I've been looking all over, but this place is too crowded."
"Aaah.... urrr..." the green clad Hero was having a difficult time finding his voice.
Patient for the most part, the dark guest watched Link with striking red eyes, the kind that bore into the archer's soul. Perhaps those eyes stole his voice as well, since he was no closer to recovering it. After an awkward silence, the enchanter left the mute Hylian, taking the blonde's heart with him.
Roy plopped down on the arm of the chair, head adorned with reindeer antlers and looking rather ridiculous in his light-up Christmas tree sweater. "Link, dude! What's going on in that head of yours? You're practically drooling; kinda gross."
The presence of his loser best friend restored Link's voice, "Wha-.." partially. "Who?" he pointed towards the dark youth across the room. "Who?!" he stressed.
The rowdy swordsman looked. "Er... I think that's Ike's friend... uh, forgot 'er name."
"She's beautiful," Link admired, spilling his cider on the carpet as he leaned forward.
Marth stepped around the puddle and took in his Hylian's friend love-sick posture. "Roy... did you spike the cider?"
"No, Link's just got a crush on Ike's girlfriend, Sumara."
The Prince wrinkled his nose. "Last I checked Soren was a boy, and only a good friend of Ike's. Ike's dating Pit, remember?"
"He's beautiful..."
Roy grinned. "Why don't you go get him, Tiger?"
The blonde watched the enchanter as the youth handed Ike a glass of cider. He seemed to be so happy with the blunette that Link couldn't bare to interrupt. "Nyyyh... I think I'll sit here."
The red head scowled. "Pussy."
Year 2
As the group edged closer to Daein, Link was surprised that the spirits were raised rather than diminished. "What's going on? I thought the group would be more nervous; does Ike really keep the morale this high all the time?"
Soren smirked at his companion. "It's Winterfest tonight. How did you not know?"
The hero blushed. "Is that like Christmas?"
The sage wrinkled his nose as he thought. "Perhaps. I don't recall what holiday it was where we first met, but if that's what you want to call it, I suppose. It's the same concept of togetherness and feasting. One of Ike's favorite holidays other than Harvest Day."
The blonde laughed. "So, the feast is a big deal?"
"Well, the children will likely put a higher value on the gift exchange," the tactician informed with a casual shrug. "It's never been such a big deal for me. I don't want anyone to waste their savings on me, and I end up returning whatever they give me."
The Hylian's gaze fell. "You never get any gifts that you keep?"
It was then that the spell caster took the hero's hand and squeezed. "This year, you're my gift."
Year 4
"And then Marth was all 'Roy! If you don't pull over right now, I'm tossing this can out the window!' and I stomped the breaks so hard it nearly put him through the windshield, because NO ONE is takin' MY Red Bull."
"So that's why you're late?" Link asked, brutally confused.
"Huh? No, that was last week. We just had really bad traffic tonight," the red head laughed, throwing his coat on the sofa of Link's vacation home in Mushroom kingdom.
Marth hung his jacket on the hook in the foyer as he explained, "There's no way I would let Roy drive unless I was unconscious and bleeding to death."
Soren sighed as he entered the living room and picked up Roy's jacket. "You're an animal, Roy."
The noble swordsman stuck his tongue out at the spell caster before throwing himself on the couch. "Still can't believe Ike and Pit got married..."
"Or that Ike's now an Angel... Lucky bastard," Marth stated with a sigh, earning a glare from his lover.
Soren merely smirked as he hung the tattered, foul-smelling garment. "Did Link tell you that he proposed?"
"Shitwaffles! Link! You're an idiot!" The fiery swordsman scolded.
The blonde was astounded. "What are you talking about? I love Soren! Enough to want to spend the rest of my life with him! If you were my friend, you'd respect that!"
Soren stood in awe as his fiance defended their relationship, and for once, he knew he mattered the most to another. That he was someone's top priority. This revelation warmed his frosty heart.
The noble boy pouted. "I'm just mad... All my friends are getting married, and Marth never proposes to me!"
"Roy, I told you to wait until after Christmas; you might be--"
"You're an asshole!"
While the two lovers bickered back and forth, as they did every year, Soren sat down in Link's lap by the fire and kissed him lightly on the lips. "My Dearest Link," he whispered in the Hylian's ear.
Year 6
Link piled logs on the fire and watched as his now feminine, yet dark, wife decorated the tree. "That's lovely, Dearest Soren."
The lady huffed and admired her handiwork. "It'll do," she finally declared. "... Have I gotten shorter since my transformation?"
The blonde smiled and shook his head. "You're still the same, honey. I know you feel different, but it's only temporary."
The sage wasn't listening, as her mind was preoccupied with other observations. "My boobs are in the way of everything. How do women stand these things? All they do is obscure my vision of my feet and hurt.... And now they're getting bigger."
"Zellie said that pain would stop with time, and you know they need to get bigger so you can feed our baby," Link said gently, guiding his love into an embrace.
Soren pouted. "The baby's not even here yet, but my boobs are the first thing to be a nuisance..."
I like it, the Hylian thought, staring at his wife's endowment. The spell caster pushed his face away.
"Don't look," she commanded, crossing her arms over her chest.
The blonde pouted, his ears drooping as his gazed longingly at his love. Soren relented, as it was a face not even she could turn down. "Well, if you must look, you might as well see all of it," the spell caster informed suggestively, leading her lover towards their shared bedroom.
Year 9
Soren rocks his infant daughter in the chair by the tree. Little Serin had seemed dazzled by the ornaments, and her brother Loren was determined to grab one. Link had to keep on his toes to make sure that the tree wasn't disrupted on his watch.
"Loren!" he called, running over to stop the little toddler. The Hylian scooped up his wobbling son, successfully saving the sparkling blue ornament from harm.
The raven haired boy was not as pleased. Loren wailed in his father's arms.
"There, there, baby. It's okay," Link tried to soothe, only to have the toddler scream louder.
With a soft, loving sigh, Soren dug around in his robes until he found a prism and he presented it to his son.
Loren ceased his fussing when the multicolored light caught his mismatched eyes. All tears vanished as the little baby reached up for the shining object with a smile on his face.
Link smiled at his husband. "See? You're really good at being a daddy."
The sage smirked. "According to your son, I'm the mama."
"A hot mama," the blonde said smugly and then looked away to avoid the glare that was sure to follow.
Serin stirred at the sound of her father's close proximity and opened her mismatched eyes to smile up at Link. She cooed and fussed to get his attention.
"Hi, my girl!" Link greeted energetically, but with a soft voice. "How's my Serin?"
Now a bit jealous, Loren resumed his fussing and climbed into Soren's lap, trying to be held like a baby. Soren didn't have the heart to tell his son that he was too big, so he made due holding the toddler like a newborn.
"It's our first big Christmas as a family," Soren realized aloud, knowing that he wouldn't be able to birth anymore children now that he had changed back to a man. Two children was the most they would ever have, and the sage was content with that.
Link beamed. "It is! My family..." he said, looking down at his daughter and then towards his husband and son. "This is beautiful. The best Christmas present ever!"
Year 15
Soren winced as he heard his husband drop one of the boxes he had been carrying. Turning his scarlet gaze to the blonde, Link whispered, "Sorry, sorry!"
The sage sighed heavily. "Careful. You know Loren has your hearing."
The Hero collected the gift and resumed shuffling down the hall. "Just tell him that the Santa person did it."
Soren scoffed. "Then he'd wonder why the Santa person was roaming around our house instead of delivering gifts."
As the two entered Ike and Pit's living room, they found the couple stacking gifts of their own for Pike, Azure and Zephyr under the tree. Pit was the first to notice the late arrivals.
"Are you playing Santa too?" he asked with a giggle, fluffing his wings.
Link nodded. "Yup, every year. It's awesome when they're this little... What about Marth and Roy?"
"Still sleeping," Ike answered from behind the tree, trying to keep his own wings from knocking down any ornaments. "If they aren't out here by the time we're finished, I think I'll go wake them up. No reason for Ron and Martin to miss out on Christmas joy because their dads slept in."
Soren began artfully arranging the gifts around the tree, trying to mix them in with Ike and Pit's. "Serin's thrilled, but Loren's a little skeptical of how a red fat man can make it all the way to Heaven and still deliver presents everywhere else in the world."
Pit pouted. "Should we have Christmas at your house next year?"
"Don't worry about it, Pit. We love coming to visit you guys in Skyworld," Link assured. "It's so beautiful up here."
The brunette smiled, relived. "Okay. You can come up here any time! Pike loves having Loren over, and I know he has a lot of fun with Serin."
"Serin talks about him a lot... So does Loren, now that I think about it," Soren realized as he took a break to eat some of "Santa's" cookies.
Pit giggled and took Ike by the hand. "We're headed back to bed to try and get in a few more hours before the little ones wake up."
Link finished arranging his stack and nodded to both of them. "Okay. See ya soon. Merry Christmas!"
The couple grinned and nodded before returning to their room. The Hylian slowly made his way back to his lover who was sitting on the bench next to the tree. "Merry Christmas, Dearest Soren," he whispered, pecking his lover on the cheek.
Soren smiled and fed Link one of the cookies. "Merry Christmas, Dearest Link."
The blonde grinned and swallowed his mouthful. "You know, I remember seeing you for the first time at a Christmas party... many many moons ago," he reflected, whimsically.
The sage raised a brow. "You know, you're right. I vaguely remember seeing you when I went to visit Ike. You... weren't much of a talker back then."
"Well, it's hard to speak when someone walks up and steals your heart away right before your eyes," he whispered, pecking his husband on the cheek. "You know, this is kinda like an anniversary for us."
Soren smiled. "I suppose it is, baby... Amazing how after all these years, you're still the best Christmas present I ever got."
The two embraced and held each other.
Link looked down at his lover. "Would you... want to unwrap me?" he asked seductively, tugging at his own sweater.
Soren looked up at Link, frowning before finally smiling. "Interesting gift, Dearest... but what if I... 'return' it?"
Link held the sage and kissed him on the lips. "I think that this is the one gift that I don't mind if you return."
