Description
Night soon fell upon Home base and the owls who made home there. It was a cold night and some of the smaller owlets were snuggled close to their parents for warmth and protection. But Vito wanted to fly. His body urged for the wind ploughing into his nostrils. But Ugo had still more molting to do and he wasn't ready all just yet. He watched as the other owlets, including Sumitra, flew around in circles, chasing after the Earth-eyes. Fern and her sister Flower were back with their mother and papa. The others Lily, Moss, Pine and the Fire-eye Flare, took turns as they counted to ten and went seeking after the hiders. Vito also loved to play hide and go seek, but he wanted to fly alone and soar across the White River. But until Ugo's flight feathers grew in, he wasn't flying anywhere. Yet even when he learns how to fly, Ugo will never leave Vito alone, even though Vito won't mind the company, he felt as though he just needed some time to himself. He viewed the rising silver sphere as the time seemed to stroll by. It wasn't long after, however, when striking Flare Fire-eye caught sight of this handsome young owlet. She drove down and landed beside him, startling Vito. He wasn't all that intrigued by the beauty of this female, he would choose Aqua over Flare any day.
She spoke in a deep voice that melted his heart in a way Aqua couldn't. But she wasn't the owlet for Vito, Aqua was and always will. Her flaming yellow eyes pierced his soul with carelessness of if it hurt him. "What are you doing here, sitting by yourself in this freezing weather and dark night?" she banged her eyelashes sitting closer to Vito who wasn't really paying any attention. "I'm getting cold and scared, won't you warm me up, Moon-eye?" she nuzzled her face in his flight feathers, thank Echo Aqua was with her father practising hunting skills. She purred but Vito shoved her away with a talon.
"Sorry, but you're not my type." He said firmly. But the Fire-eye still had a gaga look in her flickering eyes.
"But why, am I not beautiful enough?" she lowered her top eyelids giving a definite glamour to her face and body. She ruffled her feathers, puffed out her breast and walked around Vito with a straight back hoping to break his love for that Water-eye girl, but he just sighed and locked eyes with Flare. He resisted her lovely stare and got down to his point.
"Look, I'm not just any ordinary male. Once I see my love then I know it's true, I may not be able to mate Aqua or not, but right now we're just friends, Aqua and I. So no matter what you say or do I won't fall for you like I did with Aqua, you can just go find another Fire-eye somewhere and leave Aqua and I alone." He said with the most firmness.
Flare was shocked never before has she ever been let down by a male. Her eyes morphed from wooing a male to clawing his eyes out. She swelled up appearing to be twice her normal mass. As though it was Phoenix, her mama, in a Flare costume. Vito gulped as the Fire-eye prepared to take a swat at him, but her ma demanded she return at once to eat. Flare, knowing how bulk and strong her ma was, glared icily at Vito then turned and flew away. Vito was pleased that Aqua didn't get the wrong imprecation that Vito wanted to mate Flare, but as he rotated back toward the games the others were playing, Aqua was pressed up in his face.
Vito gulped. "Aqua, I… I… uh…"
"No need, I saw what you were doing." She interrupted. Vito thought the worst.
"You did?"
"Of course," she said with a smirk that confused and terrified him.
"Look, it's not what you think; I don't want to mate her."
"Vito," he knew what was coming up next, "who said anything about mating?"
He was stunned. Had she not seen Flare rub so close to his feathers? "You didn't see?"
"See what?" she said with a giggle. "I was listening to you talk against your will to break down to that diva. You stood up to Phoenix's daughter for our friendship. You're a great owl, you know that?"
Vito was a little disappointed. She did not feel the same way he did? Or was she just hiding the fact that she was? Oh well, he thought to himself, at least she's not thinking of me mating Flare. Tanith then opened her beak and called her children to come and eat. Vito de-parted from Aqua after bidding a farewell and flew with his sister to their roost for supper.
