The pixel drawing could be something like him with his gun out, pointing it at something, and his sword out in the other hand. If it isn't too hard, maybe have a little burst out the muzzle, like it just fired. Perhaps the static one could be him with his gun resting on his shoulder, perhaps a small trail of smoke from the muzzle, and with him smirking or something.

I am a technical military man. I was going to go with an Umbrella Special Forces Unit member....but before my days of Invader Zim, I was, and still am, a huge fan of Final Fantasy. The Black Mage is one of my favorite character types.
