Description
After a very nice and uplifting little conversation with I decided to do this for people who are having a hard time with penguins. You inspired me propwashforever! Thanks for being amazing! <3Step 1: Draw a circle, any one will do and they can be thinner or thicker depending on the size of penguin you want.
Step 2: Draw two lines through the circle to show which way you're penguin is facing and if his/her head is tilted up or down. The dashed lines are to show you the multitude of options, the solid red lines are the ones we will be referencing in this tutorial.
Step 3: Draw the top of your penguins beak first, it starts with a bit of a point and then smoothly flows down like a rolling hill or an elongated S curve into the end of the top mandible. Depending on your penguin you may have the beak hooked, thin, fat, twisted...what ever you can imagine! Then draw the eyes. To start off with them if you aren't sure of what the expression will be, just draw two small circles.
Step 4
Step 5: BODY TYPES. There are multiple kinds, but for space purposes I only chose to do two generic ones. There's your broad chested penguin (Such as skipper) Where you start your line from the near end of the lower jaw on your penguin and do a large S curve to have the chest stick out a bit and slim down as the body continues. To draw a skipper like figure the back should be nearly a straight line down, maybe a little curve depending on the size of said penguin. The other body type is a bit chunkier for more heavy set penguins (Such as Rico) Same S curve, just wider and with an extra backward C added to it to make that slight roll effect. The back can be straight or bump out slightly like rico's does.
Step 6: Draw the body counter shading. It's just a longer circle that attaches to their back. This can be any way you like, it can have zig zags, it can be round, it can be sharp, multiple curves...anything you like! It's up to you!
Step 7: (This is an added extra if you so please) Adding tufts on your penguin! If your little guy or gal is more shaggy than normal you can added a cool hair style of nearly any kind or come sticking out chest and back feathers if you so please! Length is up to you!
Step 8: ARMS. Just draw two lines to start, one long on (Being the upper arm) and then a slightly shorter one sticking up (In this tutorials case). Now draw a largish C curve from the lower flipper part to back a little farther than the original line. Draw another line shifting up like the first one you made and have it thin out a little bit. The lower flipper is always larger than the upper arm on a penguin! The arms can be in any position as this will work for nearly any position!
Step 9:I use sai, so I erase the unwanted lines, preserve that layers opacity and fill my lines in black to get your final product! Yay you, you made an awesome looking penguin! (For female penguin just add eye lashes as you please!)
I'm sorry the steps are a bit confusing but the drawings should help immensely.
What other tutorials should I do?? Any suggestions? (Never again carly this sucked wtaf!! Or YES PLEASE DO A TUTORIAL FOR THIS OH GAWD) I can TRY character tutorials but I'm still working on them myself!!
This tutorial is mine
The art and penguin victim drawn is mine
POM isn't mine (c) DreamWorks
Any questions?? ASK THEM! I don't bite too hard! XD.
I really hope this helps guys!! Have a good night!!

Great idea, I don't have troubles with drawing penguins, but they're not the easiest animals to draw, your tut is simple and I think it'll help some people a lot
