And here's the girl from the F/m idea. Her name's Safiyah! She's actually originally from "our" world (or at least, something close to it), but got transported to a fantasy world by a witch with some cryptic requests. In return, she was given the sick magical girl gear. Her roommate, who also got transported was... not so lucky, in some ways, but I'll post him and what the witch turned him into a little later.
