Description
Dawnstar and Alicia could use your help on Steam!: [link]I've had a bunch of requests for tutorials lately, and figured I'd explain Alicia's painting in greater detail. It touches more on my thought process while working, color choice and blending. Sorry if this is sort of a random combination of tutorial elements. I tried to answer the various notes I've been getting.
I primarily use Photoshop, but the ideas are generally the same regardless of what program you use. Unless you use... MSPaint, and then you're screwed.
You'll probably have to download it to see it properly. Feel free to ask questions in the next 12-24 hours and I'll likely be able to answer them. After that I'll float back into space and wander around with Space Sphere again.

suure... sure, the "close-up example of shading" is not just an excuse to do a close-up of her ass

It's just an example of shading, that is all. No one wants to see that buttox.

Very nice What kills me is to paint over black lines when you're going for a no-lines painting look. It takes ages and makes me cringe sometimes lol

I really like the design! Totally badass! I can see problems with the lighting and rendering though, no clear light source direction and inconsistent shadows. I thought it would be much easier for you to learn from if I did a paintover to show you what I mean, I hope you don't mind Took me 15 minutes, apologies for the huge mess, just zoom out and blur your eyes xD

See I have a problem. I already voted yes before I knew you worked on the project and it just won't let me vote a 2nd time.

How do you know when to stop shading/rendering? Or when is too much?

For me, if it looks perfectly smooth when at print size it feels like it's too much. I'd rather it be undersmoothed than too much. When it's oversmoothed you'll likely not see the saturated colors as much. It'll get muddy, as combining a saturated color palette with dull colors generally results in dull colors.

Hmmhmm, wish I had a better way with creating gradients while using high-opacity brushes and didn't get lost with shadow layers all the time - but hey, better know what to improve on than being stuck.
