And done! Chapter 1 has officially ended! And what a ride it was! I gotta say, I'm enjoying making this story, making the pages.I truly hope, you've enjoyed it this far! And I'm looking forward working on chapter 2! Thank you all for reading, fav'ing, commenting and so on! You're all amazing! And make writing this story a million times more fun than I had anticipated!

Poor Sandura has had the kingdom forced on her, is dealing with a war, was willing to give up her own happiness with a betrothal and was denied, her sister attacking her, and all alone all this time. She is understandably at her wit's end.

She didn't. Wishing death on the queen of an ally pride is not the right thing. She burned a bridge, very unlike a good queen. She could have at least spoken to them rather than losing her temper.

She's still a child, whom, against her own wishes accepted a betrothed she was talked into, and by doing so accepted the throne. She said some dumb stuff but she still did what was asked from her, regardless of how she truly feels. She seeks validation from her father to push away any remaining doubt

I feel badly for Sandura. She was thrust into being queen and hardly anyone respects her. She has had to deal with all of this alone for so long. Now this kid wants her to die. Poor Sandura must be so stressed.

Still Sandura forces a cub into a marriage that Sandura tried to avoid herself, because of her morals and sexuality. She still tried though (she offered herself to the problematic pride), but still doing the exact same with this cub what just happened with Sandura herself; forcing her way too soon into this Queen-business, just to get rid of the responsibility, because Sandura feels overwhelmed. Yes, it is overwhelming and I can understand she wanna life her own life, but what is she doing to Val is just not correct or fair at all. Sandura is selfish in this question and that is not a good trait in a Queen.

She didn't force it, the cub knew that was part of her royal duty. Sandura was willing but they denied her. Sandura was forced into the position as well. It's their responsibility as royalty and she was under the impression that everyone was alright with the cub becoming the next queen because everyone had agreed. If no one thought that meant a betrothal (given that Sandura was in one as well), they were lying to themselves.
The cub can be upset but she overreacted by wishing death on the queen.

As it seems to me Sandura did not mention the betrothal idea to Jethro, so no he did not know about it. Probably knew Valari will be betrothed sooner or later, but not this soon. Sandura did not share this piece of information with him and saw and also treated this as her easy way out of all this Queen-thing - which is still not fair.
Yes, the cub overreacted as the adults told her she did, but she is a cub. How old she can be in human years? 12? Big enough to understand what happens around her, but far too young to talk about her future just like that. She was scared and felt like the adults stole her right of making a decision about her own life. I don't blame Val, I just can't, she is a kid, whom is being tossed around like a toy or an object to buy peace with using her.
Still Sandura has the option to walk away - and she wants too, very much so - and Val doesn't. She is the next in line and yes, she can resign already and say no to the throne, but who would be next in line? So nope, if Sandura would be so selfless, then she wouldn't hurry things up and put such a pressure on a small cub, talking about future wars already if the cub refuse the marriage and literally take away every decisions from her, but rather hold her things together and stay in her position until Val is ready to take over. But no, Sandura is rather selling out Val right away, in the moment she and her small family arrived, not even giving her time to get used to her new home or recover from losing her own mother.
So yes, I see Sandura as selfish in this question and not Queen-like. Not yet. Idk what happens in the future, maybe she will prove she can be generous and a good Queen in heart, but right now, she is just not like that to me. Because honestly, at this moment, I just doubt Sandura has the ability to put her people and the Pridelands' needs in front of her own ones.

This proves 2 things:

Not for lack of trying. And if betrothal never occurred to them for a future queen, they were not thinking straight. It's clearly common practice in the story. Val is the product of an arranged marriage between prides after all. Arranged marriages are part of the deal Jethro accepted and he knows it. They all said they knew it. Why is it such a shocker to them?
Sandura has been abandoned left and right. She offered to betroth herself for peace and give up her own happiness with Malani. That is hardly selfish.
Yes, she probably could have waited to have the conversation but she has been waiting for a long time alone. Attacked by her sister, abandoned by her brother, with no support at all. Her actions are just as understandable as Val's. She is not terribly sensitive about it all, but she is also not being cruel either. She is being straightforward and is hitting more roadblocks and more disrespect. Rather than working with her, suggesting they wait on the conversation, or even suggesting another alternative, Jethro is fighting her and Val started off sarcastic and snarky, wishing death upon her.

I don't say Sandura did not try, she did. But I also think she simply reached her breaking point and just wanna get over this as soon as possible. And in the meantime she hardly notices she does the same to Val as others did to her; training to be Queen as soon as possible, not waiting enough to be mature and adult for such a position, to handle the stress correctly, Sandura was rather pushed into this and did not have the luxury of time to train properly I think. Everything was rushed in her case. And now, she does the very same for her own sake. It wasn't fair what happened with Sandura, true and it's clear as the sun. But what she does now is also unfair - and she should know better, because it happened to her as well. She should have the ability to slow things down a bit for Val's sake - and at the end the kingdom's sake. Because how good things will work out with such short-lived Queens? Because how long Valari will hold on being thrown into the deep water like this? Besides right now Sandura is the Queen, not Valari; it's Sandura's job to solve the problem of war not a 2 seasons old cub. And not being honest about this situation was more than unfair; to Valari and to Jethro as well. Sandura did not play clean.
Jethro is defensive; it is about his daughter after all, doing what any other good father would do. And honestly I am glad he did - someone has to grab the wheel, telling Sandura to slow down a bit. Yes, we all understand why she wanna step down and she has every right to do so and be happy, I want her to be happy. But not like marching trough everyone around her and forcing things to others, politically correct or not, used method or not. Just because arranged marriages common in this AU doesn't mean everyone has to be happy about it (Val for example) or more-forward it is the right thing to do. Even if Jethro talked about it to Val, even if Valari knew about it, it is still shocking to her.

Yeah, she definitely should have waited until everyone was rested and felt welcome before being like "Hey, so a wedding tomorrow?"
She was rushed into all of it as well though and was willing to give up her own happiness for the good of the pride and peace. San might also be rushing because a war is coming and learning that Jethro won't allow the only peace offering she can arrange must have hit hard.
I think she was honest because betrothals are part of the deal and I think she thought that was obvious. She wanted to resolve it all quickly and forgot about sensitivity, which I can relate to. XD
Jethro is throwing blame and anger around rather than just grabbing the wheel. He waltzes in and basically tells her she is a shit queen for not brokering peace when the other pride is clearly very stubborn and everyone abandoned Sandura.
They are all reacted emotionally and need to step back and revisit it more rationally.

You think maybe Jethro thinks a bit more about his leading qualities comparing to Sandura's? I mean, Jethro is also a leader/king and ruled a pride (which deceased, but it wasn't his fault at least....) Even if he told to one of the pride members when they arrived he is not here to rule.... maybe he still judges Sandura? Especially considering how he told Val she does her business like a REAL Queen should. Aaaand adding that maybe the Pridelanders themselves don't trust Sandura's leading skills? (How Jethro was asked if he is there to lead.)
If the pride don't trust Sandura, that can be frustrating - and also makes more understandable why she is rushing so much. Buuuuuuut what will make them think Val will be better if she walks on the very same path as Sandura did/still does? Early Queenship and stuff I mean. Maybe Jethro is really can be the help both of them need: Sandura and Valari. He had time to learn this leading stuff and has more experiences as well. Once the tension settles down a bit, maybe everything will turn out ab it better than it looks like now.
Personally I think the Pridelands a bit too much for Sandura: she can be or could be a great leader maybe, in a smaller pride. I always had the feeling the Pridelands is a huuuuge kingdom, totally A+++++ place to live, the most riches and best place ever, etc. It can a bit more difficult to lead a territory, comparing to a more usual place, which is smaller and not everyone wanna live there or want to be your ally and marry your kids and be part of the family somehow.
Or not xD
And of course there is the incest-kid as well as another problem factor. Aaaaw I really hope he is a sweet lion, whom is just the victim of the happenings of the past.

I think maybe Jethro is realizing he is no longer king in this land and pretty much gave away his daughter himself by agreeing to make her queen of the PLs. It's not like he wouldn't have married her off if his pride had survived. He himself was in an arranged marriage between prides. He has been pretty judgmental so far given that his entire pride died off.
Val will have far more support than Sandura ever did and I think that's why she believes Val will be successful. Sandura was essentially left to deal with it all alone, not an adviser in sight. Val will have three, two of them with ruling experience.
Sandura could have been a fine ruler with any sort of support but her own family is either violent or absent. Why the heck hasn't she tossed her sister out??
Sandura is definitely in over her head and I don't think that is all her fault.

I doubt Jethro wants to rule over the Pridelands or feel any kind of jealousy toward Sandura. He had his own pride and lost them, he is more like in pain and still mourning - plus there is the risk of war which threatens his daughter to face with. But true, maybe he does regret to giving Val away to rule over the PL. But it is her heritage after all.
Yes, Val have far better chances to became a great and powerful Queen and to build her her confidence and that is a good thing. The PL is big with lots of responsibilities and it needs a strong Queen.
I think Sandura has a soft spot for her sister. Not love, more like 'she is still family' - thing. Besides no-one blamed her - now adult - cub so far. Probably he is not welcomed either, but not abused. And Sandura was a small cub when the incident happened, so she does not have a first paw experience with Ranisha. Well, she did not, but that changed. Ranisha doesn't seem to be nice, we don't know a lot about her, but she seemed to be a bit manipulative and everyone should be wary of her.

Yeah, he doesn't want to rule but he is definitely not used to someone else calling the shots. He put himself in this situation by agreeing to have Val be queen. He knew it would come with responsibilities, betrothal, and he already knew the other pride was a problem. I know he thought it would be resolved but that was naive.
I am eager to find out exactly why Sandura keeps her sister around, especially after the attack.
