Even the short walk home felt long and dragging. After you had checked behind yourself multiple times, it felt like someone was staring directly at you, eyeing you like a piece of meat. Your hands were shaking ever so slightly, paranoia grappling your every thought. You held your head high; ignoring the sneaking suspicion something was tracking you.

A small snap of a branch set off a swift response. Your head jerked rapidly towards the direction of the sound, only to have scared a stray alley cat. You laughed at yourself for being so scared. The closer to your home, however, the stronger the urge to rush in, slam the door, and hide under a thick blanket gripped you to your core.

"Thank god!" you whispered silently to yourself before swiftly running to your house. A sigh of relief escaped your lips as you locked the deadbolt; you were safe.

For now.

The thought raced through your mind. Something was wrong, very wrong. You could tell that you weren't alone, and that someone was in your home. You checked every room, closet, and even every drawer. Nothing, so why did it feel like you were being watched?

A loud knock at your front door was enough to make your heart race. You slowly made your way to the wooden door, unlocking the dead bolt before slowly opening the door. You expected to hear a voice, but once the door was fully open, no one was there.

A dozen wild roses lay delicately on your porch. Vibrant reds and deep green stems, you lifted them up gently; thorn-less stems, perfectly cut. They were a flattering gift, to say the least.

"Hmm…"

You glanced around, hearing the light sound of paper falling onto your porch. At least they left a clue as to who they were. Picking up the small card, you opened it.

Hey, thought you were the most beautiful bar tender I've ever seen, even though ya cut me off. You're still a cutie!

The calligraphy could use some work, but it was understandable. You cut a few people off that night, it wasn't uncommon, but maybe it was from the one curly-headed man and his bald friend. Sure, he was attractive, but you weren't sure it was him. Blushing lightly, you went back inside to put the roses into some water. After the door had shut you were now sure –
