Description
The hipster haters have become the hipstersSeriously though folks, if you're claiming to hate something and insult it and whatnot when no personal wrong has been done to you, you're just saying it so you can fit in (applies to more than just hipsters). In the end, nobody's special; the hipsters/special snowflakes/emos/ whatever aren't special because they're trying too hard to be special in a socially acceptable way, and the haters because when they see something becoming popular and gaining a mass following they claim to hate it in an attempt to stand out. People are inclined to think they're unique, even if they're all just sheep. Don't worry, it's human nature.
Only way to ensure you're not falling into one of the groups (at least on the topic of popular thing is being discussed) is complete apathy to whatever it is. Something that you're probably not if you leave a comment claiming you're different because "you don't care".
/End rant, falls failtastically off of soapbox/

Everybody is special and unique. Don't try to be like everyone else, but don't try to be different from everyone else. Just be yourself.

I've noticed that too. But, in the end, does it really matter as long as everyone is . . . satisfied? I don't 'make fun' of hipsters, as much as tease my step sister about it(which she isn't, pushing her buttons is just fun )
There's no real 'way' to not be a 'hipster' in some form. You're a hipster if you like oldies-bands 'cause 'all the news ones suck,' or if you get a bit upset when you figure out you're not special X3
Like you said, human nature; just wanted to get my two cents in there

Exactly, but the problem is that very few people are really content to leave it alone as long as everyone is satisfied. There's always someone trying to say one subculture is better or inferior to another.
Yup, thanks for commenting and adding your thoughts in!

xD I don't really fit into any group, but if I had to say, I would probably be in the nature, mountains, hipster people group by the music I listen to and the art forms I like. With their vintage clothing style and such. xD I like a very broad range of things. hahaha And I think every group has it humorous side, it's just best not to take things too seriously. ^^

Pft, if you're trying to say you're basically a hippie, I will pretty much love you forever. I'm just saying.
Yup, every subculture has it's own little funny quirks which is one of the reasons why I think it's so ridiculous to claim to hate them.
Thanks for commenting!

Oh god, I can't believe how popular it is to hate a freaking subculture! Can't people find better things to hate?

I am likely guilty of being a self-hating hipster. This is based on what my friends tell me.

I think the point of being a hipster is to NOT be cool. So if it's cool to hate hipsters, then a hipster wouldn't hate hipsters.

The point of being a hipster is being cool by being not being cool. So yes, a hipster can hate hipsters.

The point is to be cool by not being cool. You know, incorrect definition of irony and all that.

Hating hipsters wouldn't make someone a hipster. Hipsters like to be "nonconforming" and prefer less popular things. I actually made a FB status once saying "Hipsters are so freaking annoying. They'd think so too, if it wasn't such a popular opinion."
I don't hate them, but I do find them annoying. :/

btw, I guess the latest trend/fashion is nonconforming. So... don't sue me for not making myself clear.

That's clearly not true. Hate is an irrational emotion that can be triggered by anything from logical thought on the matter, to projection of suppressed feelings. Trying to put limits on hatred is completely ridiculous, I myself hate a number of things, yet for the most part they have done nothing to me personally. I merely loathe their existence.

Hate being rational is debatable so I won't argue with you there, however I still think it's ridiculous when people claim to hate things such as Justin Bieber, Twilight, etc.

anguspie In reply to Ippy-go [2011-09-11 01:59:55 +0000 UTC]
Why? They cause me annoyance on an almost daily basis, through their fans, or through their die-hard haters, or through their merchandise and domination of popular culture. The logical response is to hate them and assume you'd be happier if they didn't exist. Besides, it's not like they're the only things I hate, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I'm not stingy with my hatred.

People call me a hipster for some reason. I'm not sure why, because, not only do I like plenty of mainstream things, but I don't dislike anything that's mainstream just because it's mainstream.

Don't lose sleep over it, people like categorizing and generalizing things. Even being called a hipster just because you like non-mainstream things is kind of iffy, if enough people grow to like it, it becomes mainstream.

I think it's because it's mostly younger people involved. They're trying to grow up and figure out who they are so naturally it's going to have a few awkward phases.
