Description EDIT: I preformed some editing on this photo and decided to re-upload it. The reason that I love this photo so much is because of the intensity in Kemo's amber eyes. There's so much they hold. . .

-----------------------------------------------------

An old Akita friend I used to watch over from time to time. When I first saw him, he looked miserable. He had flys infesting on his freshly scabbed ears. He had ants all in his food bowl-- he's choking on ants. He was fed the dirtiest water in the dirtiest bucket. He's constantly restrained and chained up. He never felt grass in between his pads, because he's only restricted to play in the dirt area. In the midst of all that, he was a gentle and playful dog. I don't like his owner because he doesn't know how to properly raise and handle a dog. The owner was a friend of my dad, so we were allowed to take him home with us for a while. We kept him for like a good 2-3 months. During those months, Kemo was able to be an actual dog for the first time. We had a yard big enough for him to roam and run around. We took him on regular walks and he was groomed every month. He was able to relax and cool down in air-conditioned quarters away from the heat and rain. He was one of the best dogs that I ever had.

After a little verbal altercation between the owner and my mom, Kemo had to go back. It has been over a year and during that interval, the owner bred him. About a couple of months ago, we went to go visit him. He's changed -- a lot. He doesn't even recognize me, anymore. He growls at me now and doesn't allow me near him. The owner placed him in that same position he was in a year ago and now he's not the playful dog I remembered. He's now aggressive and a lot more rugged-looking and hairier.

I understand that Kemo is not my dog, but that doesn't give you the right to leave him in the heat all day, every day, with no food and water. Kemo is a beautiful Akita, but you can't buy him just to show him off and that was exactly what the owner was doing. He doesn't realize that there is more when owning a pet. It makes me sick just thinking of it and I can't bear the fact that I can't do anything about it.

This is a picture of Kemo when he was a kind and gentle giant, before he came with us for a while. I wish I could take some of his 'after' pictures, but my visits are strictly limited. I went back into my files and I just happened to find this and many more and so, I just had to upload them.

dude! you could have calmed animal abuse for this. He was taken care of so well with you and then he had to go back to that jerk. If Kemo ever gets out, he could hurt someone or something. and I don't want a beautiful creature like this to be put down. could you still call up aspca and have them take away the dog if the owner continues to mist treat the dog in any way? maybe take some pictures when you are able to go near and see the way it's being treated and show how neglectful the owner is.

GAH this makes me so mad and your story on how you took care of him and he was happy and when he changed after he left your hands makes me sick! not that you took care of him but the fact that the owner is turning this dog into a monster....

but I am sorry for all the work you put into him and soon having to give him away just like that x_x

It's okay, but I will try to do everything in my power to see how he is doing and whether or not he needs to get out of there depending on his condition. And it's sad to see him like that and it breaks my heart because he doesn't remember me.

that would break my heart if I took the time to give a dog a home and find out he was trying to snap at me.

It's kinda like my requests dogs in the salon. if they ever bit me really ahrd to where I would have to stop grooming them I would be in shock. and I have a lot of dogs that love to see me when they come into the salon like a rough coated collie mix, named Rocky. =B I love him soo much and if anything ever happened to him... I would cry with the parent.

I know what you mean! I just can't think of the worse happening to a dog I love, or any animal as a matter of fact. It's heartbreaking.

I hope he will let you get near him in the future and along with having the owner allow you to be in his property again.

To me it seems as if yall should have be able to keep him if he was being misstreated. Its really sad you had to give him back to an owner that doesnt even care about his health.

My mom feels as though keeping him around will be a burden plus the fact that she doesn't like big dogs. But he's not ours, so we had to give him back. The owner's paying more attention to him now because he plans on breeding him again.

Is that even legal? DX Maybe you should ask you dad to talk some sense into the owner, or call the humane society if your positive he doesn't have access to water. That's just sad, doing that a animal.

We talked about this plenty of times, but sometimes, things are just out of my reach. Some things just can't be helped. But now, he's been given more attention than last time, because the owner is planning on breeding him again, so he has to be in good shape and in good health. I'm not allowed to go see for myself because my mom doesn't allow me over there as much.

Oh. I'm sorry the dog has to suffer. I hate it when people mistreat their dogs and think it's normal. I can never have a dog because I know my dad would probably do the same thing. He hates animals for some reason. Well, I hope he ends up in a better home, like the one you gave him for a few months.
