(Music: Chris Randall – Baron Samedi)

Loa - in the voodoo religion, invisible spirits that mediate between God and humanity, not like deities, but more analogous to Christian saints. Endowed with enormous power and almost unlimited possibilities.
Loa play an important role in voodoo rituals and is often associated with obsession.

Baron Samedi, as one of the Loa, has great power in his field. He is  cemeteries, dead, black magic, he is the master of the astral gates, and also patronizes the birth of children.

Maman Brigitte, the wife of Baron Samdi, is responsible for the gate of any cemetery, the patroness of all healers, as well as mothers, children and animals. This Loa is capable of resurrecting the dead, prolong the life of a person and even curing a terrible diseases that is caused by sorcery or external influences. Curiously that in her origin, Brigitte is a native British

Why is Maman white? She is African

Perhaps you should do some research, Maman Brigitte is the only loa with white skin, she is native British, also I depict her skin tone very close to Baron Samedi skin tone (because I actually see her this way)  so I don't really get what the problem?

Baron Samedi and Maman Brigitte are a part of my culture, not just as a NOLA girl but as a Haitian. Brigitte has some European ancestry and was from Britain, but that does not make her white. Many Africans have some Euro ancestry due to rape during slavery, but thankfully we are still Black.

You depicted her with weird greyish skin, red hair and blue eyes. You only made the Baron Black. They both should be. But continue to whitewash as you people do. We in NOLA know the truth.

Sorry, but all the resources that I happened to find say the opposite and I trust them more.
"Brigitte is the only white Voodoo god, having her origins in Ireland, and not in Africa or Haiti like other loa" (Max Sparber, "Irish-American Halloween: Irish Voodoo")

And again, in my artwork her eyes ("Zombie eyes" with a black dot in the center, where did you see blue?) and skin (dark) are the same as Baron Samedi's but you prefer see something of your own. You don't know how the white skin looks like or what? Hair in turn can be of any color, but since she is Irish, I think it is appropriate for her to be red-haired

Mythology can interpreted very differently, this is not a reason to come here and sort things out, maybe you should go and give complaints to people who write research articles based on mythology? "Whitewash" Seriously? In today's world, artistic interpretation seems to be in hostage of such inadequate people like you.

Nice. Very Gothic. The dark colors go well together, it has some really good contrast. The clothes look great. The background gives a unique look to this drawing. I've never heard of these spirits aside from Mythology and Fiction Explained, but this art kind of got me into it? I don't remember where I heard it from first exactly.

Overall: It's a good drawing!

Modern Louisiana Voodoo (and just about every other variation) is descended from West African Vodun as a result of the African diaspora into the Americas. It's shouldn't surprising that that a figure from Britain got adopted as the various colonial cultures interacted with each other.

this is one of the most awesome drawings i've ever seen of Baron Samedi. I've never heard of Maman Brigitte before, though i did a bit of research on Loa and the difference between Voodoo and Hoodoo a while ago. she seems pretty interesting!

Baron Samedi is also the patron of bad language and swearing. The only deity of cussing that I know of. More power to him!

Well, right, just for this in the artwork description I mentioned that in the original Maman Brigitte - native British, which means that it is white. (Nobody obviously reads my notes, uh) But there is such a thing as an artistic interpretation, I draw first of all representation appears from my head, and I do not pretend to encyclopedic accuracy of character. It seemed obvious to me when it comes to creativity, isn't it? Her skin color here is purple, this does not even exist in nature, if we talk about accuracy

My intent wasn't to badly critique your work, i like it very much indeed. I've done that remark only because, at least on my monitor, Maman Brigitte skin tone look way similar to Baron Samedi skin.
As for the descriptione, you're right, i aven't read it, so i'm sorry; next time i'll read it to avoid futile remarks.

That's intentional.  Facilier was deliberately modeled after Baron Samedi.

Baron Samedi reminds me of Dr Facilier from Disney's "Princess and the Frog" (which I liked!)

Interesting about his wife, though ... naturally I knew nothing about either one, but good to learn something new.

Oh my gosh, this is such a coincidence! In my latest original story, the main characters are Baron Samedi and Madame Brigitte! Although I did put a little bit of my own spin on Brigitte. My story is called Legacy Of The Gods, centering on the Yoruba mythology...which Voodoo is descendant from. Please stop by and check it out in my gallery.
