For the I Dream contest: [link]I dream of becoming some sort of explorer and to discover a new species of animal, don't laugh DX I know there's not much left to discover anymore, but that's why I consider it a dream haha
I'd be happy enough if I dicovered an uknown ugly fungus though D:

Heeey! There are still some undiscovered animals, it seems! A new monkey subspecies discovered a couple days ago [link] *dances*

Are you kidding me? That's an excellent dream! Heck on top of that monkey you linked, I recall that a new species of 'fanged frogs' and other curiosities were discovered as recently as last month in Papa New Guinea. There'll be plenty more for you yet.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a self-portrait of sorts, but it's beautiful nonetheless. She looks so serene and at home despite 'heading into the unknown' and the almost claustrophobic forest she's maneuvering through.

My teacher was telling us the other day that there's still loads of insects and amphibians that haven't been described so that'd be something to work on : D
But this same man was talking about Papua New Guinea and Borneo and while Papua is still quite intact, apparently Borneo's forests are disappearing very quickly because of people moving in to the island from (the overcrowded) Indonesian island of Java. I had the idea Borneo had really cool stuff, apparently it won't anymore. I think this masters is starting to depress me and I started 4 days ago XD

In that news article I read, they had also discovered some kind of new giant rat (like rats really needed to be bigger.) So goes to show that even some mammals managed to slip under the radar 'til now. But I always assumed that there were still more insects, fish and amphibians to be discovered yet.
I've actually been to Borneo a few times. But the last time a visited was in 1998, so that's very disheartening to hear. I hope the Malaysian/Brunei government will start making some efforts at preservation. (I mean, if they're doing it in Africa..)

The thing is... I understand that people think that human needs come first than animal needs, but people don't understand that by destroying the animal's habitat, nature's "services" will stop working... no more freshwater for people who depend on it, no more free cleaning of sewage by self-regulating bays or rivers,... there's a freaking huge list of what nature gives us "for free". People don't realize that. And it makes me aangryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Well I have some family that lives there (though I'm not Malaysian), so all occasions were to visit them. And yes, it was amazingly beautiful (at least in the 90's). It was unbearabley humid, and post-nuclear war giant bugs were everywhere and out for my blood, but those incredible, lush forests more than make up for it.
And I agree with you completely. I understand that a lot of these countries are prioritizing development, but in this case I don't think there's a over-population crisis. So why can't any housing projects move.. away from these few remaining natural habitats. Most tropical countries thrive off eco-tourism on top of all the reasons you mentioned, so I don't know..

It's as you say, in some cases they don't NEED to go to build in the forest since it's not that overpopulated outside of it. And indeedz if ecotourism is well regulated it's nice both for the environment & development <3

Thing is, the citizens of these countries have to make the pleas themselves - otherwise it's seen as an attempt from foreigners to impose 'western' values on them. (Which I suppose I understand, but still.)

I know! I love taking walks just by myself so I just look around I discover interesting things. I'm planning to take a trip to the Amazon one day, I think that would be incredible

Interesting dream. It may not seem that way, but there's a lot of things we haven't discovered yet, especially in the rainforests and oceans. There's a big world out there!

Pues a mí me parece un sueño muy interesante! de hecho, si dibujo algo para el concurso (que no creo que pueda), mis deseos también serían algo como viajar y descubrir ^^
Lo que me gusta más del dibujo es el juego de luces y sombras. Así da la sensación de que la chica está en la selva profunda o un lugar igual de misterioso.
Yo no le veo la anatomía tan mal, quizá el brazo izquierdo está un poco forzado, pero por contra, veo el codo contrario (el de la pulsera) realmente bien.
Me gusta mucho su cara, quizá porque se ve muy a gusto donde está ^^
