Previous: Hearts of three: Part 11Bonus content related to Aina's childhood:
Family reunion
The days after the attack on Pride Rock. Zuri struggled to take in all that had happened. First her mate’s betrayal. She still had trouble to believe it, even after hearing it directly from Hasani. The obsession of greatness and power he said he had as a cub, they had never left him. She knew that now.
Then that very same day, when Kovu and Kion returned along with the rest of the lion guard, muddy and exhausted. They told the pride what had happened with the rogues, but Zuri could tell there was something more, something they didn't tell.
She was right. Shortly after, Zuri was told that Hasani had died while trying to flee the pride lands. When the news finally sunk in, Zuri caught herself actually grieving for the lion. She felt horrible by doing so. Hasani had been a traitor who had deceived both her and her friends. She had never knew the real Hasani, just the front he had so carefully created. But she couldn’t help it. As bizarre as it sounded, Zuri missed the lion she had thought she knew. She would never have supported Hasani or his ambitions, but that didn’t change the fact that she still loved him.
Then there was guilt. She had been Hasani’s ticket into the Pride Lands and she had played right into his paws. Not only had her friends and their families been put in danger, but one of their lionesses were dead. All because she had been naive enough to let him worm himself into her heart. The pride, who was unaware of Hasani's treachery, showered her with sympathy and comforting words. As far as they knew Hasani had just died in a tragic accident. But Zuri didn’t feel like she deserve their sympathy. How could she?
After all, they didn’t know that the attack had partly been her fault. Besides Zuri, Kiara was the only one that had seen Hasani at the scene. Except for the royal family and The lion guard, no others knew about the betrayal. So for Zuri’s sake and her unborn cub, they all agreed to not tell the rest of the pride of Hasani’s actions. In the end, Hasani had payed the ultimate price for his crimes. As far as the pride would know, the cubsitter had been killed by the rogues while protecting the cubs.
While Zuri appreciated the thought, it didn’t make her feel any better, not for her own sake at least.
Then, one night a few days later she walked away from pride rock to be alone. But it didn’t take long before she heard rustle behind her. It was Kiara and Tiifu, who had seen her sneak off and followed her. They wasn't going to let her go through this alone. The friends watched each other for a moment. Then without saying a word, both lionesses walked up to Zuri and put their paws around her. At that point, Zuri finally allowed herself to break down and cry. While Zuri blamed herself for what had happened, her friends never did. Instead they held her while she cried herself dry in their fur.
Then about a week later, they where both there and supported Zuri as she had her cub. Holding her paw as she went through the painful process. When it was over, she had given birth to a single female cub. During the last week of her pregnancy, Zuri had been in conflict with herself. Not sure how to feel about having a cub anymore. But as she held her newborn daughter, her doubt washed away. She was the most beautiful cub Zuri had ever seen.
Having Aina brought some much needed rays of sunshine into Zuri’s life again. Yet…
Every time she saw Kiara or Tiifu around their mates and cubs, Zuri couldn’t help but be reminded of the recent events and how different things could have been. It always made it sting in Zuri’s chest. If Hasani had been what he pretended to be, had it only been true… But it wasn’t.
While she loved her daughter, Zuri swore to not spoil Aina and do everything she could to prevent her from walking down the same road as herself or Hasani. Therefor Zuri would never tell Aina about her royal heritage. When asking about her father, Zuri would tell her daughter about the gentle, fun loving lion Zuri had believed him to be. But who tragically died at the jaws of a crocodile before Aina was born. No matter how tense their relationship could be or how heated their arguments could become, Zuri would never burden Aina with the truth.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
THE END!
Well, ok not technically.
And yay, here we finally see baby Aina and Jamili.
Those who have seen how Aina will turn out when she is a little older probably knows Zuri will not have an easy time raising her.
Poor Zuri, I feel so mean xD.
So, what's next?
I wrote a more detailed journal about it a couple of days ago here: irete.deviantart.com/journal/U…
But here is the short version just in case:
I'll put the main story and most other fan-art projects on hiatus for the next two/three months. Mostly because I'll soon be super busy with real life, but also because I need to write down and scripting the story more properly (most of it is still just in my head lol).
One thing I can say is that the next story will take place after the events of the comic (it will NOT be a comic though). So these spotty little cubbies will be teens in the next part
English is my second language and I have done my best to find misspells and grammars.
But feel free to correct wrongs if you see them as long as you are polite about it.

It's so wholesome and nice to see how much the entire pride feels for her <3 They're a true family. No one is trying to make things more difficult for Zuri so we don't have any petty drama, all of the drama is based realistically on the loss and betrayal. That's good writing, imo.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it.
The pride can be very supportive when it wants to. But it's partly because they don't know the whole truth.
If they had know Hasani was behind the attack and his intentions, there may have been a little more drama with some of the pride members.

Certainly! I guess I was mostly referring to the major characters, like the Guard and Kiara/Kovu.

Poor Zuri, she was cursed with not only a horrible mate, but a horrible daughter who only cares for herself, and not the tiniest bit for Zuri. If Zuri died, would Aina actually be sad? Just a question.

Yeah, Zuri had a lot of bad luck.
I think she would actually. While their relationship is strained and Aina is a messed up character, Zuri is still her mom.

I feel so bad for Zuri, I can see why she never wanted Aina to know her royal heritage and what her father had done.
While I'm not an Aina fan, even I think she would be disgusted by Hasani's actions to try to take the throne if she ever learns the truth about him in the future, at least with Aina she thought of only marrying Vizuri''s brother to become queen and not kill anyone for power like her father. Even I don't think she'd stooped down to that level.

Yeah, Aina may not be a good person. But unlike Hasani, there are limits to how far she would go.
Indeed, Aina would be pretty distraught and ashamed if she found out about about her father's deeds.

It makes me wonder if Zuri ever told Aina the truth about her father when she was still a cub, but kept the royal part out, would Aina change and become less mean to people as she learned the price her father paid for his greed and how he hurt her mother with his actions, or would Aina become worse and isolate herself from everyone like Vizuri did?

Irete In reply to Mahogany25 [2019-01-16 20:58:18 +0000 UTC]
Hard to tell. But I don't think she would isolate herself.
She would likely be very ashamed and not so confident or full of herself if she knew, so perhaps she would be a little better person.
But on the other hand, Aina also has a habit to lash out on those around her whenever she feels bad. So it's possible that she would still
be a bully, but because she would feel very insecure about herself in that case.

Ah, and I think her's and Zuri's relationship would grow more distant and Aina might leave Priderock.

It seems unfair not telling her daughter the truth even when she becomes a young adult lioness she deserves to know the truth and to be spoiled and love by Zuri like the others cubs it isn’t right if not now when she’s a cub but in the future when she’s a young adult Zuri should tell her the truth and tell her the real full story/truth of her past, her father and her royal heritage.

The event around Hasani was a traumatizing experience for Zuri and she thinks Aina is better of not knowing.
At least not while she is still a cub. She don't want her daughter to grow up being ashamed of who she is because
of what Hasani did, which is why Zuri only tells Aina about the good side she (thought she) saw of him. When it come to her royal heritage,
Zuri mostly chose to to not tell Aina about that because she sees how ambitious (in a bad way) Aina is and is afraid telling her
will only make it worse.

am still confused.if hasani's family was not part of his plan then why did they make the distraction? did they just cause some fire and run off?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Irete In reply to harmonyguard [2018-03-27 22:03:18 +0000 UTC]
His family was not a part of the distraction, they left the pride lands months earlier and had nothing to do with the attack. Hasani says in part 10 that he made a deal with "some rouges he meet at the border", they are never mentioned to be his family.

Ok can I just say that not telling her daughter the truth isn't right I know she wants to protect her but isn't not telling her what actually happened going to result in betrayal and sadness that Aina feels when she finally finds out the truth? After all I'm sure she wouldn't hate her mom if she knew the truth
Beautiful art work by the way <3

Zuri is aware that Aina will most likely be very upset with her if she ever finds out the truth. But it's a risk she is willing to take if it will give
her daughter a normal happy childhood that is not clouded by her fathers crimes.

Poor Zuri... I feel so sorry for her, the way she looks at Kion's family in the pic (Kion looks adorable btw XD)
Aina is so pretty <3 I'm kind of sad that she grows... bitter about the royalty and so ambitious, even "knowing" her father was a kind lion as Zuri tries to convince her
