Here it is finally…. Sort of. The first part at least. XD

A lot of people have been asking me about what became of Aina after part 4, which I decided to make into it’s own mini series instead of a part of “Aftermath”. I plan to have this as a smaller arc running beside the main story.

The main focus will always be on Vizuri’s story, but once in a while I may take a break and make a part of this one instead. Which I have decided to call “Scars of redemption”.

Which is also a sort of sequel to the story: Hearts of three: Part 1
So, if you haven't already, you may want to read that one first if you want some more context to what goes on in this one.

English is my second language and I have done my best to look misspells and grammars.
But feel free to correct wrongs if you spot them as long as you are polite about it.

::::::::::::::::::::

"M-my face… Mom! My face!” Aina touched her wounds again, as if to see if it was still there. “It’s never going to be the same again, isn't?! It’s going to leave a scar! What am I going to do?!”

Zuri watched her daughter stress over the marks that now decorated her cheek. She then gently took Aina’s paw of her face. “Calm down, Aina. I’m sure they will heal as long as you stop touching them. It may get infected if you keep poking at it.” She said, trying to sound convincing. Because truth to be told Zuri had no idea if Aina’s wound could be completely healed or not. Zuri had just been about to leave with the rest of her hunting team when she had been stopped and informed that her daughter was hurt. Worried, she had hurried in the direction she had been pointed to, where Aian was.

She had been relieved to see that Aina was not seriously hurt. But Aina was apparently very shaken by whatever had happened. Upon seeing her mother, she threw herself around her neck and started to sniff shakily into her fur. Zuri hadn’t bother with questions at the time, but just held Aina and tried to comfort her the best she could. Once Aina had calmed down enough and Zuri made sure she was well taken cared of. She had gone of and angry demanded answers for what the hell had happened. Both Kion’s son, Jamili and another young lion who had witnessed the event both told her all the same story.

Though Zuri was upset over her daughter's injuries, she was also filled with shame after she had heard what Aina had done.

Zuri didn’t know what she had done wrong while raising Aina. Despite doing her best, Aina had turned out to be a difficult cub. Arrogant, popular along her peers and merciless toward those she considered unworthy. Zuri had tried to warn Aina that her friends may end up leaving her if she kept up with the unsympathetic treatment of those around her. But her daughter had, like many other times, not taken her mothers word for it. But instead expected everyone too keep admire her no matter what she did. Which had of course not been the case. While a part of Zuri was sad that things had to turn out this way, she hoped that Aina would learn from this experience and perhaps now think more about how she treated those around her.

Turned out again had given her arrogant daughter too much credit.

Instead of thinking about her own actions, Aina had done what she usually did when she felt hurt or upset. She let out her anger on someone else. Which in this case had been Kiara’s daughter, Vizuri. The two of them had been at each other before and Zuri knew that Aina was jealous of Vizuri for being a princess. But not since they where young cuds had their quarrels turned into violence.

Then, Aina suddenly seemed to snap out of her self-pity and rose to her paws, starting to walk toward the main cave. “I’m gonna get her for this! There is no way they will let her of the hook for almost killing me. I’m gonna make sure they -”  Zuri then got up too and blocked Aina’s path, locking her eyes into hers. “Sit down, Aina!” She growled. “You have some explaining to do. What happened back there?”

While Zuri already knew, she wanted to hear her daughter's part as well. Aina seemed surprised over the question. “What happen?! Are you blind or something? She attacked me out of the blue-”

“Do not lie to me!” Zuri growled. “I’ll ask you again. What happened?”

“I am telling the truth! I did nothing! She just attacked me while I was passing by! She is a lunatic!”

Zuri sighed displeased, she hadn’t really expected Aina to tell the truth. But a part of Zuri always hoped she would when she gave her the chance to explain herself. But as usual she heard she couldn’t trust her daughter. “According to what I heard from the others involved, you did much more than “nothing”. You accused Vizuri of killing Simba. That’s an outrage accusation not only on the royals, but also on a family who just lost their father and grandfather. What where you thinking, Aina!? How could you even say such a thing?”

Aina clenched her teeth together and glared back with angry tears in her eyes. “Mom… She made fun of me for losing my friends! She called me pathetic and that it was no wonder they turned their back on me-”.

“Still, that’s no excuse Aina! You had no business bothering the princess in the first place! It’s a wonder that no one lashed out at you before.” Zuri then sighed and soften her voice slightly. “Either way, you’ll have meet the royals tomorrow and explain yourself to Queen Kiara and King Kovu. They will decide the consequences for your actions. And don’t make a fool of yourself by denying-”

“WHAT?!” Aina stared in disbelief at her mother. “I was that one who was attacked and they will punish ME for it?! How is that fair?!”

"You’re both at fault here, Aina. Yes, Vizuri was wrong to strike you. But you’re not without blame in this either. You threw some serious accusations at a part of the royal family, they are not just going to look past that.  Zuri sighed again. "You’re not a cub anymore. So far, Kiara has looked the other way because she counted on me to discipline you whenever you have done wrong. But it don’t seem to have helped. Kiara will be fair, but this time things went too far and you will have to face the consequences as a pride member. I hope you’ll learn something from this-”

Angry tears were running down Aina's cheeks. “I can’t believe you… not even now you want to support your own daughter?”

This took Zuri a little by surprise.“What are you- ...Of course, I will Aina. You’re my daughter and I love you more than anything. But that don’t mean I can just look the other way or approve even when you do wrong-”

“You have never approved or supported me in ANYTHING! All I ever heard from you is how different I should be and how disappointed you’re in me!”

Zuri shook her head sadly. Aina wasn’t completely wrong, she had disapproved a lot of her daughter's ambitions and behavior over the years. But what else had she been supposed to do?

“Aina... I know I have been hard on you when you have crossed the lines, but I did it for your own good. So far you have been a merciless bully and unsympathetic even with those close to you. And believe it or not, I was a lot like you when I was young. But that's why I wanted something better for you-”

“Yeah that turned out just fine didn’t it? You never lost your friends! You was never attacked!”

Like so many times before, Zuri now questioned herself if she really did the right thing in not telling Aina the truth about Hasani. What his ambition had led him to do and how it ultimately had costed him his life. But despite her daughter’s behavior, Zuri had never had the heart to tell her.

“I understand more than you think Aina. But I can see there is no use in trying to reason with you. But enough of it now. I’ll send a request to Rafiki so he can come and treat your wounds-”

“I’m going there myself!” Aina suddenly outburst and strode past her mother. Zuri tried to stop her. Knowing that traveling with an open wound, even shorter distances was not a good idea. “Aina, wait! You really shouldn't walk off with those-”

“No! I have had enough of you or your lectures! I need some damn space where I can be myself! Away from you!” And with that she was gone.

Zuri just stood there, looking in the direction her daughter had disappeared in. Debating with herself if she should follow her and force her to come back, again it would be for her own good. … No. Zuri decided eventually. All this time she had forced Aina to do the right thing, and what good had it done? She wasn’t a cub anymore, maybe it was time she started to learn the errors of her way in her own way. Even if it would end up leaving lasting marks.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Yeah, I know a lot of people have been eager to see Aina punished, which is hinted at in this part. While Aina’s deed will not be forgotten, the main focus of this story will not be about seeing her get punished. But rather her progress of change as a character from now on.

I suspect some of you would have liked to see something more extreme from Zuri’s side. That she would yell at Aina mercilessly and ultimately disown her. But while she is angry at Aina for what she has done, Zuri is not the kind of parent who gives up on her child or tosses her aside even when she do stupid shit.

Also, Aina is not really fair to Zuri either when she claims that she never supports her, since Zuri has kinda been placed between a hard place and a rock there.

Since Aina is the way she is, their relationship is also kinda strained, since Zuri don’t approve her bad behavior and make sure there are consequences when she do something bad. While this is just Zuri trying to be good parent, this has also made Aina associate her mom mostly with scoldings and disapproval. There has been good moments between them too and Zuri have tried to bond with Aina in a good way too. But it has been hard to overshadow the bad stuff. :/

It's not unlikely that Rafiki may know about Hasani, yes.
But if Rafiki has the right to reveal such a thing may be another question.

Oh boy the meeting between Aina and Kiara & Kovu is not going to go well, I can feel it.
I really feel for Zuri here, she must feel so helpless in a way. She's done the best she could with Aina but even that wasn't enough and now she's faced with this! I'm sure knowing Kiara & Kovu will be fair to her daughter helps put her a bit at ease and that's one good thing at least.
I can't say I'm surprised by Aina's behavior here, after all she's never really suffered much for her attitude until her former friends left her and if that wasn't enough to make her look at herself & her own actions to reaize she's been wrong then this wouldn't either, at least not yet.
I'm honestly a bit curious what punishment Aina will receive for this. She won't be banished I'm sure but I'm not quite sure what else there is exactly?
What I think could really help Aina is Rafiki, so I'm glad to see her going to him!
Of course I doubt much will change after one meeting but Rafiki does seem to have a way of getting through to people and perhaps Aina's punishment could be being assigned to assist Rafiki in his tasks for a while? It would be a new experience for her I'm sure and might help.
Also I hope the rest of the pride who has shunned and spoken of Vizuri behind her back since Simba's death are addressed by Kovu & Kiara as well.
It wasn't just Aina's words that caused Vizuri to snap and later leave, it was the result of every one of them. Aina was simply the one who finally said it to her face. And I would hope the blame for all of their actions won't fall solely on her shoulders.
I also support Zuri's choice not to tell Aina about her father as a cub. Sure it may have prevented this but it may have also caused a worse effect as well. If Vizuri was shielded from the truth of her resembling Zira then there is no need to put something as heavy as a father being a killer on a young cub's shoulders.

Also sorry I'm late to comment! Been pretty busy for a while ;v;

No problem. People can comment whenever they want and if they want. xD
I imagine that Kiara and Kovu would only banish someone who have committed serious crimes, like high treason or murder.
In Aina's case, she would likely have to hunt her own food or indeed be assigned to some heavy troublesome tasks a period of time,
either around the pride or somewhere else in the pride lands.
Indeed. People seem to have some split opinions on this, but I find it kinda cruel to dump that kind of information on a child. Considering what that can do to their self-esteem. :/
It would not exactly be some kind of easy fix to Aina's issues either. It would make her feel very ashamed over her parentage, but not necessary make her change for the better.

p1p2 In reply to Irete [2019-02-19 18:31:20 +0000 UTC]

Mhm that's what I would imagine too, in the movies and the show I'm pretty sure banishment is the only punishment mentioned but that would be for much more serious crimes, so I wasn't quite sure what kind of punishment Aina would face.
I do think hunting for herself would be good for her, it could teach a lesson and well, always good to improve hunting skills.
Would give Aina something else to focus on too, maybe even lead to some bonding between her & her mother later on if she would need some tips. Also having Aina interact with other animals because of tasks she's given could benefit her as well!
Yeah I agree, that would be a cruel thing to put on a child, maybe it would have prevented Aina from becoming the character we know but it could have easily hurt her in many ways too =/

Good one again. I like the way you decided to tell Aina's story. I'm not going to lie, she has annoyed a shit out of me by being such an unsymphathetic and selfish brat and being unwilling to see wrongs in her actions. But I would love to see her learning her lesson in the way what would make her a better person. Let that lesson to be as hard as it needs to be to teach that young lioness some manners and sympathy for others and if that lesson will leave some showing marks here and there on her body it would maybe also teach her looks doesn't count for everything and that's the inside what counts. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to next parts of this and Aftermath.

I just knew that brat would have the nerve to accuse Vizuri of almost killing her, and even calling her a lunatic and try to put all the blame on Vizuri when SHE was the one looking for trouble, and I don't just mean about accusing her of killing Simba, I'm talking about going after her and Askari to start taunting her about being like Zira. She was the one who started all of this, and now has the nerve to play the victim and accuse Vizuri of what she caused.

I'm glad that Zuri is able to be a gentle mother, but also put her daughter in place: she loves her daughter, but even herself can see that Aina had this comming a long time ago when she says that it's a wonder that no one did this to her before.

However, I'm beyond FURIOUS with Aina right now: how DARE she to say her mother doesn't support her? Seriously, what was she expecting, that her mum would praise her for being a bully and hurt other cubs and Pride members during her whole life? She actually expects everyone to admire her for being a selfish, arrogant and unsuferable jerk to everyone? She seriously needs Rafiki, and not just for her wounds, but as a pshycologist, she REALLY has an issue with her grasp and vision of reality. Blaming her mother for her own mistakes. If it wasn't because she's wounded already, I would recommend another slap on her face.

Honestly, Aina is an ungrateful brat, and I feel terrible for Zuri, she's a wonderful mother that does her best, and instead is being punished for it. Sometimes I think Aina would deserve to be shunned out of the Pride, her mother included, just so she would understand the consequences of her actions and that she's the only one who pushed everyone away for her terrible behaviour.

Ooooh I seriously can't wait for the next part and see Kovu and Kiara dealing with her and putting her in place, let's see if she seriously is as cocky as she usually is in front of the royals. Will she have the nerve to lie to the King and Queen? And if she does, I can't wait to see what's coming for her, Kiara as Queen and a mother is beyond intimidating XDDD

But seriously, Aina really has NO idea how lucky she is to have Zuri as a mother and Kiara as a Queen: in other lands Aina would have been accused of treason and her punishment would have been much, MUCH worse than any other that Kiara or Kovu will ever give her, and the fact that she is a teenager would not be taken into count at all. Also, I find offensive that she says she's not being supportive by her mother, when Zuri has done NOTHING but protecting her, she's saying it herself: Kiara turned the blind eye so Zuri could handle it herself and Aina wouldn't be grounded or punished too severly, but there's so much that Kiara or anyone can take in the Pride anymore. Kiara can't keep looking away, it's time to teach her that her actions have consequences.

Irete In reply to TarzanSimba [2019-02-13 21:46:57 +0000 UTC]

We'll see where this leads.
Indeed, she had this coming and it's not anyone's fault but her own.

In the past Aina used to get away with being a selfish jerk (unless Zuri caught wind of it). But the other cubs would still admire her.
Until the day they decided not to anymore and stopped to follow her, but by then the damage was already done and left Aina with pretty screwed up morals and reality view. -_-"

I imagine that Zuri have grounded Aina a lot over the years. xD But now Zuri is done trying to force Aina to better herself
and will simply let her learn by her own mistakes instead of treating her as cub.

"Marks of the Past"
"Scars of redemption"...
Titles between which I see a good link.

Oh and just in case, here's just a few grammar errors
1)  While Zuri was still upset over her daughter's injuries, she was also filled with shame once she heard what Aina had done.
Correction:
"Though Zuri was upset over her daughter's injuries, she was also filled with shame after she had heard what Aina had done." ('though' and 'also' go well together as they express the opposite emotions better. 'Though Zuri was upset..., she was also filled with shame...')

2) A few times you wrote "happen" which should be "happened". Minor detail, just thought I'd point it out.

3) Now, angry tears was running down Aina’s cheeks
Correction:
"Angry tears were running down Aina's cheeks." (you can leave the 'now' out, and tears is multiple, therefore you say tears instead of 'tear')

4) Aina, wait! You really shouldn’t walk of with those-
Correction:
"Aina, wait! You really shouldn't walk off with those-"
'Walk of' is like saying 'the walk of (something/somebody), but here I think you mean 'walking away' which would be 'walking off' (off = away from... like 'he fell off a cliff', rather than 'he fell of a cliff').

I hope these tips help
