Description "You know Agatha, in many of my dreams I can breathe underwater. Right now I could just dive right in and swim to the origin of the spring, maybe even deep into the center of the earth!"
Agatha put on her patient look as she drew the silver bucket back out of the water.
"Well, since you are dreaming, that shouldn't be a problem. Only I don't think you want to dive into this particular spring, it may prove too much for you."
"Why's that?" Flora asked.
"Just try dipping your finger in first..."

Something I've been working on, off and on, for months (the story, not the drawing). This is the third illustration I've done for it, and though it's not finished, I doubt it'll be finished any time soon, so I've added a bit of computer shading for the time being.

your work on the foliage is perfect! also, the choice to have the girl standing on that little precarious bit of land is great for the feeling of the piece.

Thank you!
Lol, I'm glad you like that part, she is a little daring.

Wow..I like the feeling of the story so much. It gives you such a sense of mistery and deepness. It reminds me of the feeling of many mixed-up scenes from Narnia. I don't know why. I would be very excited to read all the story. And I especially like the way you drew the water. It feels like cold, and fresh and clear, as if you could dive into it yourself

Thank you! That is high praise, I was really trying to get a feeling of "other-worldliness" About the water: thanks! but I am a little too afraid to start painting it, I don't want to ruin it. I have to anyway, or I'll never learn.
I have large portions of the story written down, a lot of it is dis-jointed, and some needs to be re-written, and a lot is missing. Lol but when I have something to show, I will let you know.

Awesome About the coloring part I always feel the same cause coloring is not my strongest part either. I draw something and fell very content and then I always have the impression that I ruin it by coloring

Yeah...I think sometimes it might be beneficial to do it the opposite way, applying areas of color without "drawing" it, then emphasizing parts of it with pen or pencil afterward....but mostly that sounds like too much work, or too un-controlled, lol. Just gotta let it go, and color it.

Hmm I never thought of that, but it would be almost impossible to work backwards I think... I'm very curious of your outcome though. I'm sure it will be lovely

I'm trying it with little tiny paintings...it's harder than I thought!!

Ooh, this sounds interesting!! I really like this illustration, and the snippet of story you shared sounds promising. ^.^

Thank you
I should probably tailor the illustration to the story, not vice versa, because I find myself wanting to change the scene a little as I'm writing it. Hehe, it'll keep evolving, but making the drawings first helps me figure out the story.

That's a cool idea!! It sounds like you have a neat core idea. It's funny sometimes how characters evolve as a story goes though. I know what that's like!!

Lol yeah! I mentioned to my brother today ( ) that the more I write, the more I realize what a terrible writer I am. He's experienced the same thing with his writing. It's incredible! You'd think writing would be easy, it's just putting words down right? Errr, wrong! Lol I am having a fun time educating myself on story-writing. It'll be a long process to be sure.

StarFreedom In reply to irethkalt [2010-04-05 01:22:26 +0000 UTC]

I yes, I know it's VERY hard to write. I dabble mostly, though my best friend would yell at me for saying that!! XD I've tried a little with stories, and I am branching out some now. I write more from feeling than any thought out plot though, so in a way it's easier I think.

Anyhow, good luck!! I hope you can accomplish what you want to with your story. ^.^

*hugs*

Thanks! Hmm, I tend to get hung up on the structures of stories, and sometimes getting the feeling behind what I'm trying to write is harder to get out than the plot. I think I see the story, like a movie, more than narrate it with words...though sometimes it feels like I can write for hours! I'm not sure where the story writing will lead, but it's fun and provides lots of illustration inspiration.

LOL, whatever works for you is great!! Everyone finds their stories a little differently, but it's the end result that really matters. ^.^ I think I understand what you mean about seeing it though, rather than just narrating. I have a very vivid imagination, always have, and some stories almost seem alive.

Best wishes to you!!

It can be very fun, except my mind can be vivid about the not so good stuff too. >.o

For example, my mom didn't want to let me read Dracula for a long time because I am so visual, and when she finally did give it to me she made me promise not to have nightmares. I actually didn't, which was good, but I did have kind of a funny dream about a most inept vampire... O.o Anyway, NOW I'm rambling. XD

You are welcome though, and I hope you'll post it when you have it ready!!

irethkalt In reply to StarFreedom [2010-04-10 01:57:05 +0000 UTC]

Lol that must have been your subconscious mind overcompensating in the intent NOT to have a scary vampire dream!

Hehehe, get ready to wait.
But I appreciate it!

You could be right about my dream!! XD

I'm willing to wait for your story, because I'm convinced the final result will be well worth it. ^.^

Hehe I like how Flora is miming swimming.

So much beautiful detail. I like your decision to leave out the reflections, it makes the water look bright and clear.

This is one of those uncanny black and white pieces that actually lets the viewer see the colors, without color.

Lol thanks, it took some figuring out, I didn't want her to look like she was just dancing.

I had not really thought of being able to see color in this even though it's bw, but now that you mentionion it I think I was doing that too. I knew just how I want to color it, but I don't want to work on it until I have a good chunk of time to devote to it. I'm afraid of being interrupted or suddenly realizing I have to go to work, so it's on hold right now.

What colors do you see?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

airenzi In reply to irethkalt [2010-04-04 00:54:18 +0000 UTC]

Well it's spring here so I'm imagining lots of green and gold... mottled grey stones with traces of lichen and moss, blue-green hills and a glimpse of pale blue brightness visible beyond the green shade of the spring.

But then I see the leaves on the water's surface, so maybe it's autumn and I've got it all wrong!

irethkalt In reply to airenzi [2010-04-05 01:19:49 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you really do see the colors vividly. I started out with greens and blues, but I am shifting to pinks, purples and golds. I want to try a change, and I am also influenced by Amano's color schemes ATM.

I love autumn foliage, so I'm not sure what colors to make the leaves... because I don't think it'll be autumn in the story.
