Description
"Azkaban is the wizard prison in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. The place is guarded by the Dementors, working under the British Ministry of Magic. Azkaban has a reputation of evil and fear: the large presence of Dementors renders the inmates incapable of happiness and forces them to relive their worst memories, as they become gradually helpless and often severely insane."Source: [link]
It's been a while - actually my first manipulation in four months. So, this is how I've always imagined the prison of Azkaban. I haven't read the whole Harry Potter series though, so it may be a bit different compared to the actual description. I hope you like it any way...

I thought Azkaban was a single triangular tower. You seem to have drawn a romanticised Alcatraz.

That's the movie. In the book they never specify but the name DOES come from "Alcatraz" so I think the reference is valid.
(Honestly, the straight lines of the movie Azkaban never seemed to matvh the otherwise curvy wizarding world.)

Point taken, but there is the fact that Hogwarts wasn't curvy or crooked itself, nor is it even a proper castle. See, conical spires on top of castle towers are a terrible idea, not only because the towers thus can't hold as many archer/ballista defenders as with a flat turret, but the spire could be smashed open, and the castle broken into, that way.

Well, it was not built to be a battlefield. But I'd argue the "how it is easier to break into" part. Clearly, Draco could operate that wardrobe without any connection to the architecture of the spires. Sirius Black also got in twice in one book, and neither did he use the spires. Getting OUT of Hogwarts, however....

I am an avid Harry Potter fan, and I must admit I never gave much thought to what Azkaban looked like before. This is my new mental image of it. Simply amazing.

Hmm I never imagined to be so catle-ish, but I guess it suits the books -considering Hogwarts is pretty much a giant castle, so why not Azkaban too.
The rest (the darkness, middle of the wild ocean, evil birds, all that stuff) is pretty much exactly like I imagined

I've always wondered how cold-hearted it is to send someone to that place... probably just to contain the dementors, brrr...

I agree. I still remember how the description of that place used to give me shivers when I was reading the book for the first time.

It seems to me like you made the initial building look similar to Hogwarts, which is kind of creepy and ominous at the same time. I love the dark tones here, the realistic look of the water, the skull in the foreground and the crow holding the amulet-thing.

Yeah, maybe so... I'm actually working on a Hogwarts piece right now, and it does have some similar qualities. Great that you like this piece!

Its gorgeous, in a creepy, melancholic kind've way. Also, the diggin' the dragon/griffin/whatever they are head things. Stroke of genius!

The moment I saw the title and once I fully viewed it, I realized that with your talent, you are able to make imaginations materialize. I haven't watched the rest of the Harry Potter movie series after the second one, because I wanted to preserve my own ideas about how places and people looked; but this is exactly how I would have envisioned it.

It looks fucking awesome. That bird with the lantern is a wonderful touch, it reminds me of an indentured servant, or something.
