(updated march 18th 2012) redefined, cleaned, and worked this further in Photoshop.some practice/concept drawings of a possible mutation stage for Cancer.
The Cancer looks something like this [link] Not too pretty huh? It's mutation is erratic, so there's no way to tell how the Cancer should look.

Sounds like given enough time Cancer's appearance can completely change from one form to another. It could be just a mass of limbs and mouths to almost human, and vice versa.

you are exactly right. which is part of why it's so fun to draw. The parasites are trying to make Cancer better at catching prey but it's as if it's a guessing game.

Let me guess, your novel is actually an autobiography where you battle these demons? And it's a totally true recounting of events that toally happened. It's just that they were too awesome to be penned by someone other than the badass experiencing them.

The video for All Nightmare Long comes to mind. I like the concept and with the unstable mutations that would make infected people incurable.

lol, not that kind of cancer.
"It" was nicknamed Cancer because of it's irregular mutation and how it produced tumor like formations on it's body that contained Parasitic fluid. when damaged it absorbs it's own dead/dying cells and creates new cells to compensate.
