Description
Restauration works at the Sainte Chapelle seem to have come to an end. Every single window is visible. The target of the Gothic era to make the walls of a church transparent is clearly perceptible.
I had to rework this picture with the help of "The Gimp" due to focussing problems (see my journal).
Location: Paris, Γle de France, France

It's amazing that the architects achieved such high walls without the use of a much larger buttress system.

They had buttresses - outside the church.

It really is amazing that in the 13th century they could make something like this where the walls are more glass than stone.

Oh yes! It is absolutely fascinating!

If you should ask yourself why you see so many dark gothic churches, the reason may be the presence of side aisles. The Sainte Chapelle has just the nave and not the two side aisles. Thus the abolition of the wall was made possible.

Fantastic - such an interesting angle. I really feel as if I'm standing there with my head tilted right back, trying to see everything at once.

Thank you so much! To me, a voyage to Paris is just incomplete without having seen the Sainte Chapelle.
