Nothing could have prevented it.
It was Sunamis choice after all
Darkness had begun to swallow slugterra once more. Up above the walls of stalagmite 17, on top of the prison, a swallowed cry could be heard. No mistake on what it was. Karina, Gabe, Perry, Andi and Cat were scattered on the roof with saddened looks of infinite grief, they were staring right down at a shadow on the floor. Elis tears fell on the ground as he was holding something as cold as stone; Sunami. She was lying on Elis arms, cracks on her pale and shuddering skin. Not a sense of life to be found on her.
She had sacrificed herself.
It was her choice they had said.
But after all, nothing mattered anymore
“So Eli” A memory of him talking with Sunami before the accident came over him
“Yes”
“Do you still believe there’s freedom for us somewhere?”
Silence took over Elis answer and he looked at the sky with a smile
“You probably hate me. Don’t you?”
“What? Eli I would never hate you!”
“You probably should”
“But…Why?”
“For putting you in this situation”
“Huh?”
“It was my fault after all” A saddened smile drew across his face “If I hadn’t been such an Idiot you and I wouldn’t be here”
Sunami looked at Eli with a saddened look. She scooted over to him and took his hand
“I don’t mind being here”
“What?”
Sunami looked into Elis eyes and a laugh showed on her
“As long as I’m with you, I’m not scared of anything”
Eli looked deep into Sunamis eyes and he looked down
“But what would happen…If I wasn’t here anymore?”
Sunami stood still for a moment but her eyes closed with a smile
“Eli…”
Sunami lifted Elis chin and she softly laid a kiss on his forehead. He looked at her once more with a beating heart inside of him
“I know you will always be with me”
The memory had faded away with those words. And so did his promise
Karina was sitting next to Gabe and he was looking to the side refusing to see such a sight. She looked at her brother with eyes filled with sorrow, even though she had hardly known Sunami she knew how important she was for her brother. Sunami had helped her when she needed so and Karina had done the same. She refused to say a word but felt a tear rolling down her cheek.
Elis fists closed as Sunami was pressed against his chest. Cat and Perry were close to him and both were looking to the ground with nothing but faded hopes. Andy laid behind them, her face buried in her arms. Elis tears fell like a waterfall on the ground.
“I know you will always be with me”
Elis eyes remained closed and then his fists wrenched….and he finally cracked
“I’m no longer a hero anymore” His breath cursed himself
“From this day on, we are no longer prisoners of Blakks pity...We are going to be free”
Karina raised her head in surprise followed by the others
“We are the only hope Slugterra has left. And we have only one goal”
Everyone looked at Eli as he let go of Sunami and he started raising his head. Memories of her shattered in his mind
“We…”
Elis head rose finally and his eyes opened revealing his blinded teary eyes filled with rage and determination
“Are going to Destroy Blakk once and for all”
