I was recently criticized for not showing enough diversity in my artwork when it comes to the female figure :/ First and foremost let me just say that I think that women are some of the most powerful and amazing creatures in the world, truly! And while I will admit, I do LOVE drawing the "pear shaped" figure the most, I honestly love all shapes and sizes of the female figure. From average, to pear, to boyish, to curvy, to plus sized, to petite, to banana (whatever the hell that is
) I honestly love them all, and i'd hate to think that anyone out there feels any different.So thus-ly, I promise to start showing more diversity in my works

None of the women in this drawing are obese. Β There are a couple who are overweight, but obese is defined as more than 50 lbs overweight for your body type. Β I'm about 10-15 lbs over my ideal weight. Β That doesn't make me obese by any stretch of the imagination.
Yes, one standard for beauty is health. Β But a lot of perfectly healthy people carry a bit of extra padding through no fault of their own (my sister, for instance, who is VERY beautiful, btw). Β Those people shouldn't be seen as any less beautiful than those who have firmly toned muscles showing clearly under their skin-tight work out shirts.

You might want to re-read my first comment. The only statement I declared was that I think being healthy and beautiful is much better than just being beautiful. So... I don't really get why you're telling me all of this.

Myself, on the other hand, agree with you completely. Everyone should strive to become someone who is healthy and who takes good care of her/his body and not only for them but for everyone else they hold dear. 
We only have one body people. Let's make something great out of it.!

Some people don't realize that some things in art are unintentional.Β It comes down to practice, skill, and one's comfort zone.Β Just because you weren't drawing girls with diverse appearances doesn't mean it was intentional, it could've been the body style you were familiar with and you were more focused on displaying the general appearance of the character.Β As in skin tone, hair color, body language, and style of dress as opposed to the actual SHAPE of the body itself.Β Not everyone thinks about the body shape of a character when they're making one anyways but people will find any reason to complain.Β And it's irritating that people expect art to look so much like reality - making characters look realistic is extremely difficult!Β AndΒ making changes to the body to the base body you're used to drawing to make it more individualized is difficult to do as well.
The piece is wonderful and it sends a great message but you shouldn't feel bad if your lack of attention to that particular detail was accidental. Though I like that you will be experimenting with diversity in the human shape, I don't like that you were essentially guilted into it.Β After all, it's hard to draw diverse body forms if you can't get the proportions of the body anatomically correct to begin with!

There's still something to be said in respecting your body and your health by keeping in healthy shape and not becoming obese.

And then there is also the fact that most are not built to be super slim the same way most are not built to be super muscled or curvy. Healthy doesn't have one look.

There is, but, there are those that have a medical condition in to which they cannot lose the weight even with proper diet and working out.

This is amazing and refreshing. It was appearantly posted last year, but that doesn't make it any less relevant now. The diversity in the body sizes is great, but also in the faces. There's also the more sensitive issue of diversity in bust sizes here, but I'm grateful to see that, since I'm not average like most women you see in real life/the media and it's nice to see something that looks like ME in a picture in that reguard. Also, it's in a picture that is just a picture and not something perverted. (Let's just say I'm both chubby and very opposite of flat-chested.Β I aim to make myself healthier though, for my own sake.)
All that said, I have to agree with another comment that you should draw for you and not for others. However, your desire to please others produced something fantastic with a great, inspiring message! Thank you. Thank you so much.

Honestly, I think you can draw anything you want just the way you feel like doing it. Art is not about what everyone else tells you to do, itΒ΄s about expressing yourself the way you want to regardless of other peopleΒ΄s opinions. This peoplesΒ΄ traumas and low self esteem is their problem...not yours. Keep up the good work and always be as free as you want, art is one of those few things that has never been controlled by others and it should always stay that way.

1. The women who have made fun of me for being ugly... have no respect for men in general?? No, just the ugly ones. Certainly they respect the handsome ones. So they have respect, but... don't have it in general at the same time???
2. Actually, Isaiah was stating his opinion about female beauty. He never made it a fact. It's logically impossible for every woman to be beautiful. You can't have highs without lows. It's all relative.
3. Ah, no. Recognizing ugliness isn't shallow. If it is, which is more shallow and ignorant... calling someone (whoops actually it's just a picture) ugly, or calling someone shallow and ignorant for not having the same opinion as you.
