Just waiting to confirm how she's connected to Erza. My money's on sister (mother is a possibility, but I'm thinking not as they already did that with Silver and Gray).

My.Thoughts.Exactly! I believe that it's waaay more possible that she is her big sis, then her mom. But still to be honest, Mashima-san likes parent-child reunions: Silver-Gray, Lucy-Jude, Gildarts-Cana, Dragons-Dragonslayers, Makarov-Ivan-Laxus... So I really don't know :/

Which is interesting because in the back of one of the volumes of the manga, he uses his "Ask Mira and Lucy" section to go on about how he frequently uses sibling revelations.
Still, I'd rather have Irene be Erza's sister with how she turned out like she did because she didn't have Erza's experiences in the Tower of Heaven with a side order of she was always like that where she ran and found a hiding place immediately while Erza stopped to save Kagura.
