I haven't heard anything about the Oscar so far, I've been a bit out out of it lately. What happened to James Cameron?

"Avatar" was made fun of the most at the Oscars, and he lost "Best Movie" to his ex-wife for "The Hurt Locker". I haven't seen that movie, so I can't really make a comparison, but I thought "Avatar" would receive more awards than it did. I think it's because it's a Sci Fi movie. The people behind the awards seem to be bias against Sci Fi movies.

Well I've seen "Avatar". I didn't really thought it was that awesome. I mean, it was really beautiful and very well made, for sure, but the story isn't that original, it's like Pocahontas but with blue people. So I think I would have given an Oscar for everything that involves visual and technical material, for sure. I havent seen the other movie you're talking about though, so I don't know.
Concerning sci-fi: yea, I definitelly agree with you. The problem is that people from the Oscars are only focused on movies that make people cry or realistic movies, true stories, you know what I mean. So when it comes to sci-fi, it seems that it's discredited, which is a shame because sci-fi movies can be really awesome.

The only "close-to-sci fi" that won Best Movie was Lord of the Rings in....2003?
Yeah, the Avatar plot wasn't original to me, though. It reminded me of Atlantis:The Lost Empire. But Avatar at least deserved more than 4 awards out of the 9 it was nominated for!

Well LOTR is very different because it's "fantasy", not "sci-fi". Sci-fi includes an hypothetic future based on actual technolgies turn into fiction, but could still be sort of realistic, however fantasy includes imaginary and magic worlds and creatures. So I guess Avatar is like a mix of both I guess, or maybe 100% because it could still be real, I mean, we could discover new planets with inhabitants on it, noboby knows what we could find in the future. But it's true that people look like afraid of sci-fi or something, which is weird.

They're not that bad. Plus, they do pick the awards ahead of time, so....
But I think a touch of politics was played in the final two awards. And that was, unfortunately, a contradicting action to what Mo'Nique said, but....it's just an award show. There's always next year.

i didnt watch it. what lady Kanye ? i heard Ben Stiller made a lady Na'vi. And Sasha Baron Cohen (Borat/Bruno/Ali G) was supposed to make a skit abt Avatar, but the f**** who run the place refused it and banned him from the ceremony. that's one more reason why i'm done with oscars.

Yeah Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na'vi.
Basically this lady came up while this guy was giving his acceptance speech for his short film and she took over. BUT she had a legit reason. She was the producer of the movie, and her and the guy that got the oscar had been feuding for a while.

it wasnt avatar bashing. Cameron was fine with the skit, they banned it with the excuse that it might offend him.
i think they ddnt want a repeat of wat happened at the last vma's with Sasha n Eminem. haters >_<

i'm not sure it was the vma's was the Kanye West n Taylor Swift thing, i think it was something mtv was doing. anyway, Sasha Baron Cohen made a special entrance as Bruno, his entrance got messed up and he landed on Eminem, with his butt in Em's face.
the latter got mad and left the show. a couple days later they revealed that it was all planned and that Eminem was in on the joke.

Well, nothing bad happened to him. But his movie was the most made-fun-of movie of that evening. It was kinda shocking. Plus he lost "Best Movie" and "Best Director" to his ex-wife. His expression wasn't too happy for someone working on a movie like that for 10 years. BUT at least it's the highest grossing movie in the world, so I guess that's a point for him...

Yeah, that is an accomplishment. PLUS he did beat his own "Titanic" record too, so I guess he should consider it as a personal victory. But his face killed me whenever his movie kept on getting bashed.
