You’re parents were not the most patient people in the world, yes they loved you but they didn’t know how to deal with your ''problem'' as they said. What was this problem? Well, you stuttered, badly. ''It will get better over time'' they said. ''Oh, it’s just because she is shy’'' they said. ‘’She’ll grow out of it’’ they said. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Ever since you were young, your parents had trouble accepting the troubles you had with speech and felt awkward around you, they would often lose their temper when they didn’t mean too, there had been to many occasions to name that they would snap at you, they would either gripe at you to hurry up and finish your sentence or to stop talking completely.
You reclused into a shell of insecurity and fear, every day was the same; filled with mocking as people looked down at you and laughed. It wasn’t your fault you stuttered and it sure wasn’t easy to get over. When you were young, you were shy and kept to yourself, never raising your hand in class to answer a question, even when you knew the answer you had was correct, it was out of fear that the other kids around you would make fun of you, which they did - at any given opportunity. You never interacted with them, most of them referring to you as ignorant for not wanting to play with them.
As a teenager, your self esteem was at an all time low. Making friends wasn’t such an easy thing many of them were too embarrassed to be seen with a girl that couldn’t even say her own name without stumbling over his own tongue. Through out your entire life, you had little self worth.
Well, that was until you met him, Levi Ackerman. At first you were surprised, he was well known around the school for his storic personality and wasn’t known for his patience. When he first approached you with his cold stare and constant frown, you were intimidated. He didn’t understand the issue you had with speech and resulted to a very icy response of, ‘’The fucks wrong with you?’’
It soon followed with the embarrassment of not even being able to form one single word but he understood, his eyes softened as he mumbled an apology to you which you could only smile and nod your head in understanding. It was much more to your surprise that a few months down the line that a relationship would bloom between the two of you.
He was much more patient that what he seemed, he understood that you had trouble speaking and he felt completely at ease around you and accepted your speech difficulties. You would sometimes think yourself to be some sort of freak but Levi never did, he thought that you were unique in your own way. When you were reluctance to speak, he would encourage you too by making you feel at ease. He made you feel that you could ramble on about anything and everything without fear of being embarrassed or ashamed.
Levi loved to hear you speak and it was not a lie or a self pity act. It was the truth, he enjoyed listening to you because when you got going you spoke with such heart and passion, your eyes would come alive with excitement, shining with happiness and pure delight. You could talk about something as small as doing the dishes but would speak with so much enthusiasm like you were telling a grand story. When you got like that, you well and truly opened up, Levi loved seeing you like this radiating pure joy.
Now you were an adult you still had issues with your self esteem and you weren't fast on the draw to start a conversation. Though your speech had improved with the help of Levi and the classes that you took, he encouraged you to belive in yourself and hold your head up high.
It was these events that led you to the present day. It was a friday afternoon; you and Levi had pulled up at a gas station to fuel up for the long drive that was ahead of you, this was something that you both indulged in, long drives that didn’t really lead to anywhere. It was abnormally hot and the cold bottles in the fridge was practically singing for you to buy them, you pulled out a few bottles and turned to go pay, only to accidentally bump into a guy.
''S-s-sorry ab-ab-about th-that'' You ducked your head and tried to sidestep the man but the path was blocked by the body of the much larger guy. When you tried to go around the man blocked your path again and rudely scoffed. It was then that you looked up, instantly you were able to tell that this was the type of person that got their kicks from messing with others just for the hell of it. You recognized the look as clear as day, you’d seen same look more than a fair share of times, being different automatically made you an easy target.
Still, you were polite. You never saw the point in stooping down to his level. ''Ex-ex-excuse me. Ca-can I co-co-come pa-past, p-p-please''
He mocked and then shoved you causing you to stumble and drop the bottles of water you were holding, you bent down to pick them back up and he kicked them to the other side of the shop. You needed to leave, you needed to get away from him. ‘’P-pl-please m-mo-m-move’’
''N-n-no b-b-bitch,'' He teased crudely. ''N-n-not until y-you s-s-suck my d-d-dick'' You backed off, in an attempted to get away but he was relentless and simply blocked your paths each time, your back hit the fridge a small whimper of fear left your throat.
''Hey! Back off!''
The man turned around and you saw Levi walking over in your direction, looking like a wolf ready to attack a lamb. Levi got right into his face, eyes burning with rage. ''What the hell is your problem, asshole?''
The man, still cocky as ever, shot back, ''What’s it to you?''
Levi gazed over at you for a brief period before turning back to the man. ''She is my girlfriend and no one messes with my girlfriend. If you want to pick on someone, pick on me you dick''
The man scoffed and turned on his heel, walking off. ''Are you alright, (First)?'' Levi questioned, you nodded, when he asked again, wanting a verbal response, you nodded again and shifted uncomfortably. It was then that Levi realized you didn’t want to talk right now, your shoulders hunched over and your head was bowed, trying to make yourself look smaller.
''(First) it’s okay. You can talk'' He stepped closer to you bowing his head as well, letting his forehead rest against yours. ''Don’t let some jerk make you feel like you are nothing. You are something amazing. Do you know what you are?''
''N-no, I-I d-don’t, L-levi''
''You are my amazing, wonderful girlfriend, the one who is stronger than anyone else I know''
You blushed. unable to hide your smile. You wrapped your arms around Levi’s waist burying your head into his chest. ''I-I-I lo-l-love you, L-levi''
Levi pulled you closer to him, resting his chin on top of your head. ''I love you too, (First)''
