Description Varril just joined the Great House Hlaalu and apparently they can't decide whether they're cool with their members being cold-blooded killers or not.
To be honest, I'm always a bit reluctant to carry out assignments like this for these people because you can never be quite sure if someone is going to doublecross you or not. So, I had a bit of a panicky moment when I returned to Nileno Dorvayn and she acted like she didn't just send me to assassinate a guy five minutes ago. I was almost happy to realize that it was simply a limitation in the game engine and not a conspiracy. Almost.
Also... If House Hlaalu wants me to off somebody, would it be too much to ask that they'd tell their guards not to chase me around the town afterwards, eh? Though I guess it's a good business plan to pay the fellow 1000 drakes for his services and then have your own guards arrest him and demand 500 of it (thank the Divines for Thieves Guild discount) back as a fine. It's hard to be an honest delinquent in Morrowind.

I've never finished Morrowind but all these comics are really making me to give the game another chance.

I hope they do - I haven't finished the game either, but I sure plan to get there one day...

This game...My honesty-to-goodness least favorite Elder Scrolls I've ever played. I remember having to get a two-handed weapon every time just to be able to hit an enemy.

That really depends on which class you play even though because of that reason, I always get 2 weapons of the skill I`m not good at - one causing Paralysis and the other for finishing off the snubs XD

Oh, I always went with custom class, too many variables with pre-made ones.

Legit. No matter if you had to select every weapon skill there is in order to counter those foes even at low-level?

And 90% of the time, you need to crouch or jump or writhe in horror at the bad character models

... LOL. Ok, no comment at that, I don`t even mind the character models. And I play it without any serious graphical mods, since they would be too strong for my laptop.
I bet it`s because of this reason that such things like Morrowind Overhaul and Better Bodies + Heads exist.

Ah, I wouldn't know, I only had it for XBOX. My computer (A business one I got on sale) can barely run the original half-life. It gets glitchy just because of the flashlight.

No problem for me if it`s for Xbox. At least we both know about those character models, even though personally I kind of like them like that (vanilla Morrowind). Yeah, I`m a 90s girl , hope you don`t mind it too bad about the inability to mod the game though. I would totally wish that fellow players that play through consoles can mod the game as well because some mods are really fun. One of them being LGNPCs
Pfff, sounds like my own PC, thus I play the game on my brother`s laptop x3

Yeah, they have what, 2 polygons? A voice actor? Not to mention the fact that you gotta squat for half the game to spear enemies or use a katana cuz THOSE should've been in Skyrim. Would've made it a truly perfect game.

Haha! Unless you have them as Major/Minor skills?

TheLugia702 In reply to Dreamer-In-Shadows [2014-08-17 14:25:35 +0000 UTC]

That's another thing! Skills are supposed to be something you check only when you level up, which would never happen in this game, anyways.

Dreamer-In-Shadows In reply to TheLugia702 [2014-08-17 15:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Weird, since my Major and Minor skills are going up nicely and once the number of increasion reaches 10, then you can level-up (my chara`s level 26 now). And again, it all depends on the class you play, as seriously, so many different skill-classes! Even though it`s kind of frustrating to increase your Major + Minor skills up only if you wish to level-up, yes, even though I had discovered that if you increase some of your other skills and then your Major + Minor skills in order to level-up, then you can get ridiculous increasing in misc. skill`s main attribute. True story, I practiced Hand-To-Hand until it increased like 6 times, then I increased my Major + Minor skills ... and got a +7 Speed bonus on my next level-up O_O (because one of my Major skills is also owning Speed).
I`m personally more annoyed that your misc. skills are so damn low

The gameplay's not the best, but the story is much better than Oblivion's. I can't compare it to Skyrim because Skyrim would actually have to have a story in the first place.

Usually provoking the guy you're trying to kill until he attacks you first solves the guard problem. xD As long as they attack you first, you can kill them in self-defense.

Nerdy-Viking In reply to ??? [2013-11-04 18:17:34 +0000 UTC]

Gods this is why in retrospect Morrowind was such a pain in the ass despite being such a good game for its time. The Great house missions were so finicky and even the slightest fault of any kind was an automatic game breaker. Probably the main reason why I never completed the main story was because you limit what you can and can't do in the game. And on top of it all it seems like that every action you take, even for factions, makes you seem like an ass even when you do EXACTLY as they request...*sigh* still, good times. That's what PC Adventure RPGs were like back in the day

Nice!

To me those Hlaalu meatbags looks more like brainless tin cans or very clever manipulators that are playing some kind of trick on Varril's brain.

Anyway, great comic - as always!

Yeah, as it turns out you'll get no bounty if you make them attack you first. I got to remember that next time I get a quest like this, lol.

The most easy way to kill him is to anger him.
just take of your clothes, pull your weapon and insult him
and he will attack you voluntarily.
...It's also the most humiliating way.

Stormofshadows [2013-11-04 17:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I always hated having to kill people in Morrowind, more than in any other Elder Scrolls game.  I never did Hlaalu(I'm a sucker for the Redoran), but I remember an Imperial Legion quest where I had to kill this guy and I hated getting a bounty for it.

Isriana In reply to Stormofshadows [2013-11-06 12:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, same... Shame that I keep forgetting that if you make them attack you first, you'll get no bounty killing them. Oh well.

Stormofshadows In reply to Isriana [2013-11-06 17:18:31 +0000 UTC]

The problem was that I utterly failed getting that one guy to attack me.  He hated my guts, but would never attack me.

Dreamer-In-Shadows In reply to Stormofshadows [2014-04-27 10:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Maybe Frenzy would work nicely or, if you have high Speechcraft, just repeatedly bribe and taunt him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stormofshadows In reply to Dreamer-In-Shadows [2014-04-27 13:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Granted this was an old file that got destroyed when my old computer died, but I did have speechcraft(midlevel I think, it has been a while) and taunting didn't work.  I didn't think about fury, but then again, at that point in time other than levitate(which was fun), I completely ignored magic.
