Description
I used to play sports, but then I took an arrow in my interest zone and started playing video games instead. So yeah, as an incredibly crappy runner I can't help being partly envious and partly amused by the fact that everyone in video games seem to be able to run indefinitely no matter what the conditions are. There they sprint in their full battle gear, day and night, up the mountainside from one battle to another - they're never out of breath, never break a sweat or show signs of tiring. Not a word of complaint about aching calves, weight of their huge inventories or the sores those Heavy Iron Boots Of Strength +3 must be causing... I want super stamina too!
So many RPG characters seem to be unnaturally skilled in long distance running so I decided to choose more than one game as examples. Oh and those of you who wonder... I use Sacred Ashes mod (this one dragonage.nexusmods.com/downlo… to be specific) for my Leliana, hence slightly different looks. I also have Phoenix Armor for my Warden - DAO is a modding paradise...

This is so hilarious! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way!

I thought the very same thing about games and real life whenever during running races. Imagining I'm The Warden or the Vault 101 Kid only works for .... 10 seconds.

Okay, some people are really skilled in long distance running but... I worry about some other stuff like: How could every game character take 4 bows, 5 swords and stuff and look like he/she has only a poket full of money, one bow and a drink?!!

Well, stamina is one aspect of reality that I'm glad they haven't tried to incorporate into video- wait.
Diablo...
Yeah, stamina is annoying in that one, really.

This is extremely funny, and extremely true! Also, in the midst of all their running without getting sore or tired, they're never bothered with temperature. I don't know as much about Mass Effect or Skyrim, but I know in Dragon Age they run up a high steep snowing mountainside and a deep underground cave with thick rivers of boiling lava, yet in the midst of all their jogging in thick leather and metal armor no one ever collapses from altitude sickness or heat stroke.
But then that might just be because I'm a weather wimp. A little early morning frost and I get so cold I can't take my dog jogging on account of the cold hurting my joints and my lungs, and running on hot days just make me dizzy and nauseous. Never bothers game characters though. xD

I've never really had that problem because, I used to miss the bus a lot when I went to school, so I built up a lot of stamina running after moving vehicles. (Which makes me feel like a hypocrite whenever I get mad at the dog for running after cars.)
What I want to know is how those people go without ever sleeping, let alone waking up more than two minutes before they're supposed to be somewhere.

Actually Diablo 2 doesn't do that. You can choose between jogging or running, and as you jog, your stamina meter starts going down. If it runs out, the game forces you to walk until it (slowly) re-charges a little.

In Morrowind you actually had stamina counter. >D
That's the reason why I loved the game. Part of.
...and I used to run to work. Then I took a bicycle to the road and +5kg to my body. And horrible stamina.
(and I use horse in-game anyways )
But hey, in DA you have +1000000 Warden stamina, in ME - you were trained for years and are a special unit soldier, and NwN... is just old lovely D&D where you can swim up the waterfall! It's all perfectly logical.

The parallels are so perfect!
I was thinking about doing a workout routine based on Skyrim. Run! Sprint! Draw Sword! Power Attack! Sheath Weapon! Sneak! Roll! Repeat!
Then I realized I would probably die if I did that XD so yeah.

Best party ever! I sometimes use Zevran instead of Leliana for giggles (though only after investing enough talent points to lockpicking).

I will only ever use Alistair, Wynne and Leliana. In that order. XD Mine are modded too so my Leli lookes like Sacred Ashes Leli and my Wynne just looks dignified. Old, but beautiful and dignified.
I just... I dunno... I never liked Zevran in my party. I can't even say why.

it's true, thats what i both hate and love with "Heavy Rain" for ps 3. In the beginning i though it were interesting with doing real-life stuff, like making drawings like you were an architect. However i stopped pretty quickly as i got annoyed with the toothbrushing, and the constant slow walking, even when one of the main chars were searching for his son.

I guess that just proves that there can be such thing as too much realism in video game... Still, I really hope I get to play Heavy Rain one day. Such a shame I don't have PS3 - I've been wanting to try it ever since I saw the trailer.

It does have some really interesting parts, i just couldn't really get to them fast enough, like, there's a car chase, and i wanted to know how the story ended, and all the people you get to be, how their stories intertwined. It also gets abit creepy/wierd early on.

It sucks when people ask you, "So what did you do over the weekend." and I just want to go on and on about all the adventures and achievements I got from playing skyrim.
So it's always a dull, "*sigh* Nothing..."
I don't wanna sound crazy by saying, I killed dozens of frost trolls! and bandits! and slayed two dragons and saved a city from another dragon attack!!

TheWildGrape In reply to Isriana [2012-02-16 10:38:57 +0000 UTC]
Another wonderful thing would be like getting a belly full of arrows, drink a bottle of potion and be ready to run and jump again. Instead you limp for a weak after you simply slid and fell on the ice
